Potting pickups

I recently replaced my Telecaster pickups because they had gone 'microphonic' because of what I understand to be loose coils. I also understand that 'potting' them, i.e., dipping them in wax, solves the problem (I couldn't be bothered, and I wanted to try Jason Loller pups anyway. I have noticed that my 1950 Fender Dual 8 is feeding back in a similar fashion, but I don't know if I should pot those pups, or if it's possible. Opinions?javascript:emoticon(':?:')
