Yesterday was a great day as many Alabama steel players under the leadership of Bill Cook met to review bylaws and elect officers for our new Alabama Steel Guitar Association.
Special thanks to Roger Crawford (President of the GA Steel Guitar Association)for his wisdom and guidance! He's also an excellent steel player.
I was so impressed by the quality of ALL the Alabama steel players (13 players) who stayed after the organizational meeting to jam. I have to mention my little buddy, 18 years old buddy -- Tyler Hall (The "KID"). He is a great player now but I predict we will hear a lot more about him in the near future! He calls me several times a day and he will play some new thing lick or song over the phone...great steel player and super nice young person.
It was also fun to see so many different brands of steel from Sho Bud -- Serria -- Excel -- Emmons -- Fessy -- Carter -- MSA -- Zum -- Rains. The interesting thing was that everyone sounded just great!
Mark Sunday, February 26 on your calenda as it will be our first big jam at the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery. Also, be watching for information concerning our regional meetings and the first annual Alabama "SUMMER JAM"!
Again, thanks Bill Cook and Roger Crawford for your strong leadership!
Thanks Bill Cook & Roger Crawford!

I also appreciate all the hard work these guy have done to get the steel club started.
I'm not so sure about this nickname thing! I had a great time yesterday, and heard some AWESOME steel pickers. I've never seen so many Zum's in one building. However, I really liked that Fessenden! I look forward to seeing all of ya'll on the 26'th.

Bill,
It was really good to meet the Alabama players that attended, and to hear all the great talent that is right next door! You guys are well on your way to having a top notch Association, and I feel blessed to have been asked to serve on the Advisory Board. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again on the 26th. If you have the chance, come on over to Jerry Braswell's show on the 5th. It's a benefit for The Shriner's Hospital, and if you've ever known a family that has been helped by this organization, you know what a worthy cause it is. See you all real soon!

Many thanks to Roger and the GSTGA for your help and willing cooperation to help form the ASGA. I also want to thank Bill Cook for taking the time and putting forth the effort to get us off and running. I would also like to thank all of the members personally for coming to our first meeting and jam. Without you folks there would be no ASGA!! Welcome to all of you. This club is for all of us so let's have some fun!
