I have one of two pedal steels in town that I know of. Most of my gigs in town have been on lead guitar but I landed a regular every other Thursday gig at Mulligans with the "Big Skinny Mountain String Band". We'll be there this Thursday (12th) and every other Thursday for any skiiers here for vacation.

Hey, that's just up the hill from me. I'll try to catch one of your "steel" Thursdays. Your band might try the Cozmic Cafe in Placerville too, similar acts are booked there all the time.

So who's the other steeler? Years ago Oakley Casamblam (SP?) lived up there, and he certainly could play.

Oakley is the other steeler here but he works evenings at one of the casinos (not playing steel).

There was Dean Rimmer, steeler for the Outpsyders. I played lead guitar with them in 1998 but Dean sold his house and moved to Idaho.

It was good to read this thread,,Wonderful area of the country....but, too cold and that white stuff is awful.

I met Oakley in the mid to late 80's when I lived in Gardnerville...nice guy and a fine player. Wish I could come and hear you and your band..too far away and it's in the 70's here!

I used to love to go to Placerville for the sprint car races.

Oakley not playing steel? We need to light a fire under that fellow!

Hey Jack, don't rub it in (70 degrees) :-)

I think Oakley was a 'Stardust Cowboy' a year or three before me. I only heard him play once but I sure liked what I heard. Chris Ivey used to play in South Tahoe now and then though I don't know about recently.

Hi Ray,
I live just down the hill from you in Carson, and I used to play at the Lakeside years ago back in the 80's, with various bands, the most notable was Silverstate with Van Coffee and Gene Lesage(Collin Raye) I might just have to come up and check it out, ....

Hey Chris, you also played with the Stardust Cowboys? I remember when Oakley did... man Gary Campbell sure has worked with some great musicians. I played with them at the California Western Swing Society (in Sacramento) last New Years Day. Had the pleasure of also hearing Sacramento great steeler, Herbert (Brownie) Brown. Man, Mr. smooooooth, if the younger players in the area haven't heard Brownie, it is a real treat not to be missed.

Chris Ivey is working with a group in Sacramento, and they're doing real well.

Hey David - Yeah, Gary has had some great players through that band over the years! (And then, er, of course, there have also been folks like me as well...)

The esteemed Pete Grant played right after me and, at one point after that, my steel guitar idol Vance Terry played with him off and on for a while. It's good to know Gary's still out there playin' after all this time!

As I ask everyone I have the chance to ask, PLEASE say hello to Mr. Ivey from "the other Chris" for me. Thanks
