I wanted to try something new. Something different.
Jackson was one I have never played so I took a chance.
I must say at first I was thinking after I sent the check was nothing will sound better than the Emmons push pull I have. Boy was I wrong. The Emmons still sounds great but this Jackson blows it away. Only regret is that it's not a D-10.
I have finally found the tone I have been searching for. Let me say this. I have played just about every brand of steel made. This one is good enough to make my Emmons stay in the case forever.
If anybody here is searching for that old school sound. Seriously give Jackson a chance.

George, I think you've made the right decision. Jackson Steels are wonderful steel guitars with great tone, playability and sound. I play a BlackJack Custom too and it's the best steel guitar I've ever played. David, Harry, and Dawn Jackson are all great people who can help any steel player. I love the classic sound. After playin' a GFI for six years, I finally found a steel that is easy to play where the pedal action is smooth, and the sound and tone are amazing! Even with your amplifier at a low volume, this guitar's sound is clear as a bell!

does that have the raises and lowers on opposite ends of the guitar?
How do you like that feature?
I like the idea of it, I don't like the way my kl lowers have to jump over the cross rod. |

I've been wondering how the Blackjack sounds compared to the Pro IV or Madison/Shot Commem. _________________ GFI S-10 Expo. Peavey NV 112 |

I've played the Madison '63(now called the Shot Jackson Classic) and it's got the same great sound as the Pro IV and BlackJack Custom. My buddy Tim Sergent plays his Pro IV with Dierks Bentley and he plays both a Pro IV and BlackJack Custom. He says both guitars sound great! |

Tim,
The raises and lowers are at the same end on this one. I have not played a Jackson set up like that. I have played a Bmi like that but the system may be diffrent. _________________ Excel S-10,2 Williams 700 Universals,Jackson Blackjack Custom,, Goodrich LDR2 & Hilton Vol pedals,Monster 3500pro power conditioner, Morgan SW100 amp & Cab |

You hit the nail on the head. Foe me there is no other company to deal with. They are the best steels made in my opinion. The customer service is second to none. Dawn worked with me through out the process. Once the steel arrived David called me to make sure I was 100% satisfied and if I was not he said he would do what ever it takes. They are a great company. _________________ Excel S-10,2 Williams 700 Universals,Jackson Blackjack Custom,, Goodrich LDR2 & Hilton Vol pedals,Monster 3500pro power conditioner, Morgan SW100 amp & Cab |

If more players would try them I would guarantee they would switch. Although there are some very stubborn people that are locked up in the name of a steel or how it looks. If you know what I mean. _________________ Excel S-10,2 Williams 700 Universals,Jackson Blackjack Custom,, Goodrich LDR2 & Hilton Vol pedals,Monster 3500pro power conditioner, Morgan SW100 amp & Cab |

The BMI is a double changer system. I think it is similar but I am not sure. _________________ Excel S-10,2 Williams 700 Universals,Jackson Blackjack Custom,, Goodrich LDR2 & Hilton Vol pedals,Monster 3500pro power conditioner, Morgan SW100 amp & Cab |

Thanks for the pics. |

What a beauty!
I've owned a lot of brands of steel, looking for what I felt was the best tone/playability/reliability/cosmetics all in one. I stopped at Jackson. Haven't considered another brand since. My Pro IV stopped my search in its tracks. I doubt I'll buy another brand; if I wanted another steel, I'd get another Jackson. _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Brett is correct. I have 2 Jackson's (a Pro IV and a BlackJack Custom) and I love them both. I have really put the Pro IV through some tough traveling and it has held up to the riggers of the road AND airport baggage handlers extremely well.
George, I think I played that very guitar you bought at Bobbe Seymour's shop one day when Dawn and TC Furlong were there. I have one coming like that to use on fly dates. They're having to pay a ton of money in overweight charges every time we fly (which is a whole lot) and I called David and he's gonna set me up with a single like yours.
You're gonna love your guitar.
Tim
p.s.
They do make D10's!! |

Does anyone know if you can get a BJ custom with a red apron (with cross) and natural top? Or do you have to accept the colors they post on their website? Thanks

Terry I am pretty sure the Jacksons can build a guitar in any color combination that you want but best to give them a call or email. _________________ Emmons, Franklin, Mullen |

The BlackJack Custom can be any color now. When the Jackson Steel Guitar Company started building the BlackJack Custom, it started out in charcoal black, and I think now the heart, diamond, club, and spade design on the front is optional-your guitar can feature it or it don't have to be on there and the guitar can be any color and the fretboard can be the Sho-Bud style or a fretboard with a different design and they now build the BlackJack Customs with or without pads. My steel is solid or glossy black without the designs on the front-I've got the Sho-Bud style fretboard.
