A friend is bringing this guitar over tomorrow. Belonged to His father, who passed about 18 years ago. I wonder if there is any interest by anyone re this guitar. When did they stop making these? He says it is in immaculate cond. and beautiful. I'll know more tomorrow and will post pics. Anyone knowledgable about these fenders? Typical values? I'll send S.N. and description, playability, etc. as soon as I can check it out. He wants it to go to someone who can appreciate, and maybe play some music with it. I know this is premature, but I need background so that I can give an accurate appraisel/history of the gtr. Thanks, Lonnie P. _________________ Music is probably the most "spiritual of mankinds emotions, and when practised with a pure heart, can lead one into the presence of God, who invented it. I believe these were the fenders that were built by sho-bud. If it has crossrods and linkages its a sho-bud in fender clothing and that is a fairly rare and nice find ! Coud pull down a decent amount of cash. _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

The Fender 2000 was a cable actuated model, usually 10 pedals and a very orange sunburst finish. There is a demand for them as people have gotten pretty clever about adding knee levers to them. They can sound great. |

Totally not so.
They are a Double-Ten that
were completely built by Fender.

Mr. Rigsby was incorrect. These were not made by Sho-Bud but by Fender in Fullerton, California. If you can post pictures, we can collectively guess how much it might be worth. _________________ Bradβs Page of Steel

Thanks for the input, folks. My friend is bringing the gtr over tonight and I'll know more. He describes it as being exactly like the one in the above pics, and it has cables and one knee lever. More later. Lonnie _________________ Music is probably the most "spiritual of mankinds emotions, and when practised with a pure heart, can lead one into the presence of God, who invented it. Lonnie,
Ya might wanna have the ole two-wheeler on hand . . .
These 2000's aren't too terribly easy to tote.
You're lookin' at prolly ~94 lbs., though it is
divided into two cases.

I was misinformed as I thought fender discontinued the cable guitars by the early 70's....but note that I said "IF IT HAS RODS AND LINKAGES"..... _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

Boy this brings back memories. My first pedal steel was a Fender 2000. I had it for 20 some years and it served me well. Added 4 knee levers to it. Yes, there are cable driven. I used airline cable and we had the knee levers made. Awesome tone on these guitars.
Pedal action very slow because of the cable. But nice guitars and you can't beat the eye appeal.
Brad is correct, these were made before Shobud ever came into the picture. Also Russ was correct. Get the 2 wheel cart out. The guitar goes in one case and the pedal rack and leg bag goes in the other smaller case. But they are heavy-ASK MY BACK and 5 back surgeries later.

OK, my fellows and girls, I will attempt to download these pics. I've not seen one of these since the late 60's and I had forgotten how beautiful and impressive these are! I not so sure there has ever been a more beautiful steel made! This one looks as if its only been played a few times. The pedals show very little scuffing, and there are only a few "small bar dings. The hard ware and chrome is wonderful, and notice no corrosion anywhere. There is even a couple extra cables, pulleys, turnbuckles in a bag. The cases are near perfect, with just a little scuff on the end corners. OK< let's sdee if I can load these pics.

Look these pics over and advise a fair price if you have any knowledge in this respect. I will say that the owner would be interested in any reasonable offers if anyone cares to make one. This gtr IS Heavy. The pedal board and rods come in ther own case and I estimate would weigh about 20/25 lbs. The gtr in /case I would estimate will weigh 75/90 lbs. I need all the input I can get to give my friend an honest appraisel/potential. Thanks again. Lonnie PS He also brought me a Shobud The Pro 11 custom, walnut shaded maple 8 and 3, in very good condition. I will be posting soon on another page. Lonnie,
Now since I seen the pictures I'll give my 2 cents worth. I sold mine a a little over 5 years ago on the forum for $800.00. It had 4 knee levers installed, but I think that maybe took away from my value as they were not factory, as Fender didn't make any knee levers on these guitars. Also cosmetically mine was not in as good of shape as this one you have. Here is the page link from my sale on the forum:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=110703&highlight=sale+fender+2000
Another one went for $1,200.00 that looked like yours.
Then I believe one went for $700.00. Another one started at 1k, then 900, then I don't know what happened as it is still open from a few years back.
Here is the forum's page link:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=188970&highlight=sale+fender+2000
So you can at least have some mark where to start.

It appears to be in very good shape. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if I didn't already have one. Mine is in good working condition, but doesn't look near as nice. I'd ask about $1,200 to start but be willing to come down. I've seen a couple of old Fenders in the not so distant past with reasonable asking prices linger for quite a while. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord,

I would think that that guitar would go for $1200-$1500, as it's in excellent shape. The 2000's seem less popular than the other cable Fenders just because of their weight and bulk, but they do offer the alternative of old + new for someone who really feels he needs 10 strings. |

Thanks, Donnie, Fred, and all you guys for the input. I'm thinking your right about the $1200/1500 range on pricing. The owner told me last night that He paid His mother $1700 for the Fender, not because He had to, but that He felt she should have some value from it since it was His dad's pride and joy, not to mention the sentiment attached to it.
We realise that has nothing to do with the "market" for this instrument. It is what it is. So we're going to give it two or three more days and will come to a decision. We have had two offers, one at $1000, and $1200. We'll see. If I had the money, I'd keep it myself so I could set it up and just "stare" at it for inspiration. Thanks for you guys collective help with this. Is it only my imagination that makes me hear the cables in the tone of these guitars? They sound so different, kind of wirey. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

If you ever heard Curly Chalker's "Big Hits On Big Steel" LP on Columbia Records released in the '65-'66 era, this is what Curly played, even thought the picture on the cover was of the ShoBud he played for a while. Yes it was Fender but he made it sound like a Mack Truck on steroids with lipstick. |

When I got to know what Pedal Steel was, this was the girl I fell in love with.
To me, at that time, it was a thing of pure beauty. Actually still is. _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

Folks, I will be leaving tomorrow, the 11th, to visit my sister in N.C. (Morganton) who is very ill with cancer. I should return on the 23rd, and we'll settle on a price for this "Beauty" of a steel. Meanwhile, enjoy the pics and the memories of great music made on a wonderful piece of american history. Lonnie P.
