Definition: Steel Guitar = Thief
Steel guitars steal your thoughts, time and affection. It makes no difference if it has pedals or not. Time is spent locating that triad and that sound you are hearing in your head. Chores are delayed while you try that lick you have in your head. I once loved to play electric six string, which now sits in a corner in a case and seen seldom. "Honey" says I spend way too much time trying to resolve that Xdim7 into that Y. This is a full blown CAUTION to those entering the world of STEEL, beware of your bankroll it is in direct line of fire of G.A.S. The world of STEEL is very addictive and extremely hard to free ones self from.
If you are driving down a road and thoughts come into your mind about a sound and how to get it......it may be too late for you. You may as well get that new guitar with all those bells and whistles you want.

Posted 18 Mar 09 5:00am Heres some more about Mistress Steel.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A pedal steel is easy, the most rewarding, and at the same time frustrating, thing a person can become involved in. It has the ability to ruin marriages, relationships, and devastate your nerves.
It is a fickle mistress!
Just when I think I have a handle on it, it turns around and kicks my butt, leaving me demoralized, and wanting "more". Is that sick or what?
I am fascinated, and obsessed by the Monster! When I'm gone from home, who do I miss? My wife? Yeah,a lot. My pedal steel? I fantasize about it!
Why do people get involved with these things?
Because they speak so sweetly, and get into your heart, mind, soul, and maybe even divorce court!

Is there a problem here? I don't play GOLF, fer god's sakes - not only is it insane to blast the piss out of a little ball that you then have to chase after yourself (shouldn't somebody hit it BACK to you? Ur git a dog for pete's sakes, FETCH ROVER, this is a FUN GAME THIS IS A FUN GAME THIS IS A FUN GAME!) but then you have to go to SCOTLAND to do it right! Right... so price out a round-trip to SCOTLAND, then buy yourself a nice warm li'l steel guitar. You won!
(and wasn't it easy....)

QUOTE: Posted 10 Oct 2012 4:18 am "Gene Jones,
You and I can at least put part of the blame on Johnny Vaughn for getting us onto the crazy machine."
Roual, you really did dig up the past to come up with Johnny Vaughn! I first met him in 1949 when I was working my first full-time music job in Amarillo, Texas. Someone brought Johnny by our club and introduced him as Jerry Byrd, and after hearing him play, I believed it, being the newby that I was.
But it wasn't just me, Johnny could play Jerry Byrd well enough to fool anyone. Johnny Vaughn died a few years back, but he lives on in the memories of us who knew him.

But back on topic, my dad always said he was blessed among men, because: "He never had to play golf or fish".
