Has anyone got any suggestions for outdoor events in cold weather 45 dropping to 28 degrees according to weather man.... will a psg handle the cold for a couple of hours, I know that new Acoustic guitars will crack in the cold, but how cold is to way to cold, I work outdoors everyday and have learned how to adapt, but generally I work only with steel and not hardwoods. all suggestions are appreciated....

Just let it get to ambient temperature before you open the case.Usually all the cautions apply to letting an instrument warm up slowly, but there's no reason it shouldn't work the other way round.

Try keeping your bar in your pocket between sets. Hardware stores often carry chemical hand warmers in a little packet that you can use to warm your hands between songs, and you'd be surprised how much they help if you sit on them. They last a couple of hours. Good luck!

If you will go back to November or December 2011 on the Forum you will find a posting about a member from Wyoming if my memory is right. Playing a Christmas Show in a park. There is all kind of information on dealing with your steel in cold weather and a lot of good points on making yourself comfortable in outdoor cold weather gigs. Good Luck and Happy steelin.

Y'all can do that silly $#!& if you want, but I'd definitely pass. Oh Well I can remember once, in my younger days, playing when it was 40 degrees with a 40 mph wind. (The wind was so strong, it blew over a Dual Showman!) My fingers were numb after the first 5 minutes, and the wind kept blowing the bar out of my hand (I couldn't even feel it, so there was no way to guess how hard to hold it). After that, and a much later experience playing at an airport when it was 98 degrees (it sorta goes without saying that there's not much shade at an airport, unless you're standing under a 767) I decided to pass on all summer and winter gigs.

Spring and fall...count me in. But summer and winter outdoor gigs? I'll leave them to the young 'uns. Razz
