Hi!
I'm a total beginner on the pedal steel and I need some help. I just received my Sho Bud Maverick today that I got from ebay, and when I plug it in to my 6W Fender Champ amp and crank it I can barely hear it. Really low output.
I ordered a volume pedal also, but haven't got it yet. Now my question is: Is the volume pedal supposed to boost the signal level, or should I suspect that there is something wrong with my new found love?? Smile
Thank you!

Sounds like you have a problem to me. may be the guitar itself or make sure the instrument cable is good. Volume pedal does not boost signal it just allows you to control the volume. Its like a volume knob for your foot.

The volume pedal is not required to get sound through your amp appropriately. It is used for expression and dynamics. Do you have another guitar or instrument to plug into the amp to check it out? It may be a wiring issue with the pickup, but I'd check the amp first. Try plugging your steel in another amp too.

I'd second the former suggestions. Sound like a possible wiring issue with the pickup, instrument cable, or, a blown capacitor (or any number of other issues) with your amplifier.

The next step should be connecting your guitar to a different amplifier, with a different cable, and isolating the cause.

Thank you for your kind answers!

I have no clue what I did earlier today, but I had another go just a few minutes ago and it worked just fine!! Sounded excellent, except for my performance Razz. Still a lot to learn..
