I just wanted to dump some cudos (ie.- praise) on my buddy Joe Naylor. He has a great steel seat company but is always striving to help out his customers with their new ideas. And, giving the boy some credit, he has a few ideas that come to him on his own. And he acts on them if at all possible.

Here are a couple of pics of a new product he has recently introduced. It is the "Effects Box on Legs" and it is a very timely product. In the last few years there has been a movement in small electronics allowing some really great sounding "stomp boxes" to be developed. These are normally referred to as "boutique" but that, I think, is just a fancy way of saying "it's gonna cost you a lot more money". But, for the most part, it's worth it. The components on my board are in that category and I just used them for the first time this weekend on 3 gigs and they sounded fantastic. And as a bonus the whole "Effects Box" rig weighs nearly nothing. Check it out:

Len, my thanks to by buddy Randy Beavers. He turned me on to the Wet reverb and the the Strymon delay. (Every time I go visit him it winds up costing me one way or another!) He had the "el Capistan" delay pedal but it only has one setting. The Strymon "Timeline" is a pedal that has 8 different delay algorithms and has the ability to save 200 presets. Both the Timeline and the Wet Reverb are the best sounding pedals I've ever used. They sound pristine, quiet, full-bodied, and have a lot of functional variables to dial in your sound for any type of song. Not cheap.... but you definitely get what you pay for.

I think it would be cool to have a steel chair like that with no storage and it folds up to the size of a brief case.

I watched some videos of that delay pedal in action - that is one fine piece of gear!

Thanks for the note - after listen to steel players bump their heads and NOT enjoy it I realized that these might work for some steel players.

Tommy will be at some steel shows including St. Louis and have photos of seats plus his effects box on legs.

I have had a lot of people asking about different kinds of ideas and am doing all I as many as possible.

Earl check you email - I can build a cushion with legs - I had thought about that but the Lite that firs under an airplane seat even with a back rest.

The seat with no storage that has legs that fold up will work. That is how many options are fit in to what I build at steelseats.

Adjustable legs, adjustable back rest angle, swivels (which was started for keyboard players but several steel players are buying them too), tall seats for guitar and bass players too.

Thanks again

I'm looking forward to showing off this neat little setup down in Montgomery, Alabama this weekend. Come take a look. It is really convenient to not have to bend to the floor every few minutes to make changes to your effects.

Randy, it's not just a "guy" thing. Everybody knows as we get older we just want more/cooler toys to play with. Why you asked? Obviously, we're running out of time to enjoy them!

Several more effects cases just picked up from getting coating. Just took a pick-up load this time to get caught up - maybe - not complaining just stayin busy - which is GREAT when it is 115 or so in Phoenix.

"Cooler" today bout 102 maybe just maybe 99 tomorrow - but still like that AC

Several people are want more options on these so I am working on more options.

As I told a guy on the phone today - give me an order (ie show me your money) and I can build that.

Very Happy

Joe,

It might be cool if you had a base and cover seat that would just close up over a Pedal Train board.. for everyone that already uses a board.. you could just lift it off the floor and put it on top of your seat holder.. after the gig, put the "lid on" and leave..

just a thought for what it is worth.

Hal - these have a lid that lift off -

this is a photo of the effects case with the legs down and the lift off lid that is padded on the inside to hold the effects in place while carrying it from gig to gig, etc.

I looked at the idea of makeing a compartment in a seat to place a effects board in it and found that there are no standard sizes (as far as I can tell) Also many that have a carrying gig bag or plastic lid - up to a Road case arrangement.

That is when I decided to build my own with legs - since introducing these I have had guitar players ask me to build one for the floor. I am about to build one that will have a panel inside so they can use it flat or tilt it up.

I have been to lots of music stores and done lots of looking on the web. This was originally built for steel players so they would not hit their head on the steel when adjusting knobs.

What is the dimensions of YOUR pedal board?

you can email me joe.naylor@att.net

or via my web site

Joe,
Are those legs strong enough to support a Nashville 112 on top?

My first thought was --- THEY hold up a 300+ pound man that jumps around while he plays the steel!

Now the serious answer - this is the same parts I use on the base of my seats - as long as it is not set on the edge where it would tip over no problem.

That is the two sizes (inside dimensions 16 3/4" x 12 1/2" and 23" x 12 1/2") which is similar usable area to some of the plastic floor models.

Thanks for the inquiries - ask all the questions you want

Wider effects boxes and till / angle tops available too.

My idea on the angle is to keep the carrying case slim I can make a hinged panel inside with a hinged support on the top end and a certain angle. By doing that the angle can be fixed at any angle wanted plus it could be used nearly flat as well.

These ideas are after talking to others that want different things in effects cases - and floor models too.

Tommy & Randy,

Can you please post clips that show off these pedals?

Joe.......What about a storage seat that housed an effects tray that lifted out to be sat on the floor....? Within the seat, under the tray, it would be deep enough to house a volume pedal. Total depth of the compartment would be, say, the depth of the volume pedal plus the tray material plus the depth of a boss effect. Have you already covered this?

How about one that isn't so deep (front to back as noted in the pic. I play on several stages where the guitar player is just to the right of me and that would not fit. About half the size in that direction would be great. Just big enough to hold pedals the size of Boss or MXR type pedals. I may be dumping my Rp155 and going back to discrete separate pedals, and this would be work great, but the size is an issue. Stability might be a concern, but then, no one should be walking near it to knock it over.

Also, and option for an outlet strip to plug any AC powered pedals and the 9v power supplies or 9v power centers into. Could also let us plug our electric volume pedals in.

And, I can't tell by the pics, but having velcro lining in there would allow leaving the pedals mounted during transport without them falling around the case.

Allan - I have a tray that fits in side my sewing / craft seat and that type of tray would be put in a SlimLine maybe but for sure in an original. That tray would be 11 3/4" x 16" approx. inside. Let me do some checking.

Both Allan and Richard please email me with more info and I can work on both projects.

joe.naylor@att.net

Richard I have had another guy ask for a smaller one too. I will look into that - the current size shown is a way for be to get started 12 1/2" x 16 3/4" inside the same as my seats - the legs are the longest possible and still fold up under the box.

My first consern on a narrower box like that is that the legs would be narrow and may be easy to tip over.

I have had guitar players that want them on the floor - the typical music store models are plastic and a little more expensive plus the do not travel well.

All I have done so far is with the ideal of putting velcro on the back of the effects - the felted material holds the effecs real well - the newer lids I have made are thiner by about 2" + there is foam in the top inside the box to hold the effects in place while transporting. I have sold several just like this - most buy they power supplies etc but I can do that several ways. Voodoo like in the photo and 1spot also that I know of are working - for players.

I am working on several different variations so I am still open for ideas.

Thanks for the notes and inquiries.

The stability thing was a question I had too. If you have the ability to add the leveling screws to your legs, I would think that adding an "L" shaped foot bottom that had a flat piece a few inches long that could sit on the floor out away from the unit could help with the stability. And with the screw in type feet you have, you could have the bottoms of the feet so they can be turned in to clear the case when folding up the legs.

I'll get with you if I decide to go back to individual pedals. My RP155 has a bracket I mounted on it to let me clamp it to my guitar leg, similar to the Stroboflip tuner.
