Any place that this would work on a steel?
I can't imagine where it might be clipped on, but I figured I'd see if anybody tried to use one similar to this.

It works on the keyhead, anywhere else it looses it's senses it seems.

It even works on the cord!

If you place it on the body between the necks it works fine, does not need to be clipped on.

Well, I just ordered this one to try out. I'll see how it works out. It's supposedly an "all instrument" tuner with extended range.

I find the Fender clip-on tuners to be the best. They are small,bright display,long battery life. I have a keyless GFI and Williams,to I tried clipping it to the body on my side of the steel and it works just fine.

I've been using a Snark and clipping it on back apron below the keyheads..no wires to fool with and can check your tuning at any time almost silently..

I've used a snark to quickly tune my steel. I find that pretty much anywhere on the rear apron is effective. The snark is a great tuner. It's extremely fast and accurate. They cost around $10. on amazon.

I use an Intellitouch tuner on my Sho Bud pro 1. I can clip it on just about anywhere and it works fine. I use it for reference and then touch it up by ear.

i recently removed the clip, sanded the back flat and velcro it to my GFI near the head, this works great! it is out of the way, easy to see and i have yet to loose one to a guitar player that wants to borrow it...lol

I looked at a Snark at GC... it had a ball-and-socket thing going on, dude showed me several that had broken at the socket.

I ended up buying the Boss TU10... very nice, color LCD with switchable backlight, large clip... I put it on a tuning key and it worked fine on two necks. Can do strobe as well as needle-style readout. 40$.

Like Stephen said about breaking the ball & joint. I broke one and put it together for the best angle put a drop of crazy glue on it. The tuner works well but I have my eye on the Korg clip on.

Do any of these clip ons offer sweetened tunings?

I can tell you the Roland doesn't... you can set it up for up to 5 semitones flat and you can change the refernce frequency from 436-445Hz. You can set it for cents display or strobe (rotating), so you could sweeten it manually with cents.

I use one of these and has a clip that attaches to the leg. Works very good, does not have the number ( stays 440) display, but has marks @ 10 +/-. Also is lighted for low light situations when needed.

I've been velcroing my tuner right here for over 20 years and so far haven't found anything I like better. It's very close and you can see it. This tuner has a light but the switch is in the back so you have to take it off to turn it off. The regular TU-12 Boss tuner has the switch on top so you can just leave it there all night. I don't like to see the guitar all loaded up with stuff attached to the leg as I think it takes away from the good looks of the instrument.

Well I don’t have a bunch of pictures of my tuner and setup because I don‘t need one to tell you how I just use a laptop.
All tuners I’ve tried including the clip-on’s have worked pretty well but I decided to stop fighting it and go to a laptop for everything.
FX, tuner, ear monitor, lyrics, song and charts all on the screen at the same time
No I can’t attach it to the Steel so it has to be on a stand and no I haven’t worked out all the bugs but I’m getting there.
You might as well get used to it. The technology is here now for this all to be small enough to clip the whole thing onto your steel.

The 440 displayed on the tuner in the picture I took is the actual pitch of the E string. I picked the string and took the picture. When no string is picked the tuner's display is inactive, no needle, no numbers.

I don't believe that's right... most tuners display 440 to indicate the absolute reference *if* they are capable of shifting this... besides, E is not 440! That would be a concert A. Try another note and see.

OK guys, I'm sold. . I just ordered 2 of the Fender units, so we'll see in a few days if & how well they work on my PSG's. ...

All I can say is, I attach the tuner to the cord and the tuner works like a normal vibration tuner. The picture below was taken immediately after I picked the E string. I'm not sure what Bill means by "true pitch".

The display is showing E 440...If it were 10 cents flat, would it show E 430, as well as the pointer showing 10 flat, or does it show 440 with the needle showing the flat?
