Looks like the pot smoking brought on emphysema. He has made some great music in his life.

Pot caused that? Any proof? More likely it's that Willie is an old man now, with old man health issues.

One account I read says that the altitude in Denver affected him. That's pretty good spin but... jeez he's almost 80. And a week in Boulder almost killed me when I was in my 30's.

He has been a good and tough one. I saw him do 2 hours one day in Va. without a break.
He said when he took a break and came back nobody would be there so he stayed and sang.

Willie has got hard bark on him. They're going to have to hammer him in the ground with a croquet mallet when he goes, and when they do he'll be looking up smiling and singing. That's one TOUGH old man. My guess is he's got a few more miles in him. Willie was smart enough to enjoy life while he's living it. God bless him. While Garth Brooks was a flash in the pan, guys like Willie, Merle, and George LIVED and PLAYED country music. They are the real deal. They didn't go RETIRE when their careers took a downturn, hide in the corner from the world, and count their cash. They kept playing to the people. They are the REAL deals, not these fly by night throw away wannabes coming out of the Nashville,Hollywood marketing system.

Pot smoking has nothing to do with emphysema. Many studies have been done on this subject and they have found no increased risk of emphysema from pot smokers.

and Merle and Loretta and........

Think there is any correlation between the 80 year old stars that still tour and perform and pot?

If it were,nt so sad it would be funny,So many people will let someone blow smoke up their butts with insane statements such as [smoking marijuana does NOT cause emphysema]I would bet that 99 percent of the ones that believe this garbage are potheads themselves.and will defend pot smoking to the very end.Like an alcoholic dying of cirrhosis of the liver but won't admit his drinking caused it.Don't take my word just look up the stats.YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

The study does not take into account how the weed was smoked, what devices may often have been used for decades that can have detrimental effects far beyond the pot. But pot haters usually don't care but to cast illogical guilt.

Chris,
and Merle and Loretta and........
...a very long list of country and steel playing legends

When I first started playing the Texas circuit about 4 years ago I couldn't believe how much pot was being smoked. Its pretty popular with the older traditional country guys because it is so easy on you. To me pot seems like a big (and enjoyable) part of the working country musician scene.

BTW: Willie weed is legendary and guys with first hand stories are listened to with great reverence.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. It should be legal. It's inspired many, many musicians. Fishing, a dube, and good country music on the radio. It's alcohol thats the problem. Willie raised the issue. Interesting how many 80 year old pot smokers there are. Can't say that about the alcoholics.

I'm sorry, you can name every big star you can think of [and there are lots of them]that are pot heads or alcoholies and a lot of people seem to think it makes them real COOL.What a JOKE.A lot of these people have so much talent, great singers, writers, pickers etc,but are complete brain dead idiots by ruining their lives with dope or alcohol. No need to list names,ya'll know who they are.But some will still defend them and talk about how COOL they are. Please don't piss in my ear and tell me it's raining. I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT :!: :!: I Have been to more than my share of funerals for friends and bandmates over the last 50 plus years to last me forever.MOST were young 30's and 40's because of dope of one kind or another and alcohol,And NOT one of them looked COOL in that casket.YOU BETCHA,DYK?BC.

Some of Willie's contraband found it's way into my lungs once or twice.
