Terry Smith, the manager of the American Legion in Converse e-mailed me to let me know of the big Labor Day celebration. The e-mail is below. Due to the people expected to attend the celebration and parking area I would urge all to show up about 11:30am or 12 noon. Please remember our jam session starts at 2pm and we need to start on time....Joe Rouse...210-254-5299

Thanks for the e mail just a heads up at the Legion on this same day will be our annual Labor day celebration where we will be providing free hamburgers and hot dogs and folks will bring in side dishes and deserts so if any of your folks will want to do the same this would be great because it's free to everyone. I wont be here personally I have been called to Tenn. for an issue that has to be addressed. So I hope yall have a good jam session because a bunch of our folks will be here to listen to the music, free food brings them out of the wood work.

We did have a great jam session. I know people are tired of me saying it was a great jam session but it really was great. We've had 8 really great jam sessions this year and by far surpassing the previous year. Great players attended and our backup band was outstanding even though they only play together once a month.
Dave Goodman, Bill McCumber, the great Billy Phelps, Mark Mosely, Bill Menges, Reggie Amos, and Stephen Cowell were our steel players and Billy Gilbert and Will Deer were our dobro players. Kenny Piper headed up the band with vocals and guitar, and fiddle. Mark Mosely on guitar and back up vocals, Nancy Kohtzur fiddle, Brian Folks drums, Ben Price / Jerry Boatright bass, and our lead guitar player was Jim Blakey. Billy Phelps and his wife Patty each sang for us and once again a 10 on the WOW scale...
Most of the 8 jam sessions I passed the donation can to pay for the rent($50) of the hall we use to the William Randolph American Legion in Converse, Texas. Due to our players and audience generosity we had an excess of $208.00. I talked with my committee(Brian Folks & Kenny Piper) and we decided to make a donation to the American Legion for the Wounded Warriors with the $208.00. $208.00 seemed an odd number so we passed the donation can again hoping to bring it up to $300.00 and with the donation we ended up with $429.00
We have the best hearted people in our jam session family. We made the presentation to the American Legion who thanked each and everyone of us many times. Before our presentation was over we had one of the Legion members take the gift to a full $500.00.
This was our last jam session of 2012 account of dove hunting, deer hunting, holidays, and cooler weather to do some traveling. Thank you to all the players that made the music, the supporters who encouraged the players. Thank you goes to Brian and Carol Folks for driving from Corpus Christi to San Antonio each month so Brian could play drums for us and Carol operated the camera so we could have dvds of each meeting. Thanks to Kenny Piper and his wife Jorja for all of the hard work of setting up their PA system and taking it down each and every jam session, Jorjas support of both the jam sessions and Kenny. And Thank You to my wife for all the help she is...We are all Blessed and we will resume the jam sessions the first Sunday after Super Bowl weekend...jr
