Just curious, I've been working on my pedal board and it seems like it's going to come down to overdrive and reverb. I've tried so many things through the years, chorus, phase, compression, delay etc. Always seems to sound cool at home but not with the band. What else do y'all like?

I use a DD2 Delay with amp reverb. If the amp has no reverb I use RV3 which is a Boss pedal with both delay and reverb.

Reverb ( I used a Holy Grail until it died),
I use a phase shifter on about 3 songs a night, Currently it's an Ibanez box but I don't remember the model name.
I was using a Danelectro fab metal for distortion but it died. My boss tony is in the shop, it is my favorite Fuzzbox

So far mostly reverb and delay. What do you like about the pre-amp Jay? OK I looked it up, it's an overdrive.

I use a Zoom G2 effects unit both for Steel and Guitar. This is the best chip/sample unit I have found for steel as most others (combination effects boxes with amp modelling) don’t run clean enough and I can’t stand a string of ‘toys’.
All my floor “stuff’ is in the lid of a small suitcase for easy hook-ups and packups – just two leads and a power cord to connect. From L to R there is the Zoom, Hilton VP and Sarno Black Box (with power board on top). N.B. the signal runs from Right to Left (BB first - Effects last then to amp).
I have tried other Zooms, Digitecs etc. but the models and EQ just don’t work as well with a Steel. I also use a G2-U1 for guitar (the one with a VP built in). For Pedal Steel I normally bypass the Amp and speaker models and only use EQ, Delay or Reverb and (occasionally) Compression and some mix of modulation (to get a B3’ish sound).I have about 12 pre-sets that I use.

I go Steel, Volume Pedal(goodrich), then the Effects.

Each one of the reverbs is so unique, hard to choose just one.

Maybe not necessary for steel guitar, but if you own a Rickenbacker 12 string, this is a must have, IMO.

Wowzers, a WET, BlueSky, Flint, and Dispatch Master? That's just nuts! I am definitely loving the flint though

I agree 4 reverbs is over the top, but each one has a unique characteristic.

The wet reverb is just a great sounding reverb. But if you crank both knobs, you can get these cool keyboard type pads.

The I love the shimmer effect on the Blue Sky. There really is not another pedal that does that.

The Flint is great, esp with a tap tempo switch for the trem. It's reverbs sound different than the blue sky, but how the trem and reverb interact together has some special qualities.

And the Dispatch Master, well...it's reverb alone, not the best, but when using the delay alone, or it's reverb/delay together...it has some magic also...

So far my conclusions after these many years,( I've been playing steel since '76) seem to be in line with most guys, it's all about the reverb and drive. Who else? This is totally interesting and thanks to all who have taken the time and trouble to post photos.

I use a POD XT with a few custom patches for basic signature tone, organ, banjo (Sorry b0b,) dobro, and effects like chorus, stereo slap back echo between the 2 amps, compression and distortion.

So- so far the only guys who use anything except reverb-delay and overdrive are multi-effects guys. Stomp boxes are all verb-delay or overdrive. Very interesting.

I'll jump in, I don't like multi-boxes and prefer the individual stomps. I can switch around.

It depends on the band. For most of the honky-tonk stuff, I've got a small board with delay, reverb, and OCD. Right now there's a tremolo, but it doesn't get much use. I use either an Ibanes analog or Boss digital delay, and prefer the Hardwire RV-7 reverb to any amp reverb.

For the more adventuresome gigs, the big board would be OCD, MS-10, Plimsoul, RT-20, the delay and reverb, plus a wah.

There's a phase shifter, a chorus, other dirt boxes, and even a new Boss Feedback pedal not on the board but easily added.

I'm with you Bobby. I prefer individual stompboxes for flexibility, and playing six string for years, have enjoyed finding some unique and amazing pieces for my toychest. For pedal steel I am more sparing, and aside from a Morley volume pedal, use the Holy Grail reverb on amps without reverb, and also Endangered Audio Research's Gristleizer. That's a band pass filter effect that also has a incredible range of tremolo and ring modualtion sounds. My secret weapon....

I use an Alesis Quadraverb, and a Sarno Steel Guitar BlackBox, with GD Walker Stereo Steel amp head.It has several reverbs,chorus,and delay settings in a SKB case.That sits right next to me while I'm playing. controls are easy to get to, if I have to make adjustments.

Here's a shot of my rig at a gig awhile back. I use a Boss ME-50 Muli-effects unit. My Walker pack seat has a compartment on the right side and I just flip the lid out and the Boss unit sits right there within easy reach. All the effects are at hand and "tweakable" with knobs, no programming required. I use mostly the delay, flanger (for organ effects), distortion, and a couple of patches for chorus and tremolo...JH in Va.
