Steel Guitar Repair London

Can anyone recommend a good guitar tech in London, England to sort out the wiring on an old Dual Professional steel I've just bought.

There is some sort of earthing problem (a hum that goes away if I touch the metal parts), the sound is very "thin" on both necks and both the volume and tone controls act as volume controls. The overall volume is a lot less than on my Custom Triple.

I'm hoping it's the wiring and not the pickups that are the problem (what are the chances that both pickups developed the same problem? - both necks sound about the same).

Thanks for any help.

Hi Jeff
You might be better asking the question on the British Steelies Society forum.

Jeff, if you have access to an ohms meter, try checking the ohms between tip and sleeve of your guitar... plug the cord into the guitar, then ohm across the other plug. Have all volume/tone controls at max up, then switch between both necks while checking. I'll bet they're both up over 100Kohms... a sign of open pickups. The giveaway is that you're still getting sound through them, but it's tinny... same thing I saw on a single Pro recently (at a guitar show).

The 'tone as volume' problem points to an old tone capacitor... this item is very cheap, so no big replacement cost there. The pickups are another matter... good luck.
