Hi everyone,
Just bought a Gibson Br-9 from online.
I tuned it up and played it for a bit and its amazing
The only problem is there seems to be an earth type buzzing whenever you touch the strings with the Bar or metal finger picks. Its a bit too noticeable so needs sorting, so i'm hoping i can sort it out pretty soon as i really want to start using it.
Any ideas? i took it appart and the earth wire seems attached to the bridge well although i havnt had the pickup out.
Also if anyone can help me out with the date of this instrument? i read it was the serial number on the pots that you need to look for. on the tone it says: 134316 and bellow that 1054. but the volume (pictured bellow) says 134230 The pickups have the adjustable polls too, so guessing its early.

Usually these things get quieter when you touch the strings. The P90 style pickup is noted for being a bit noisey. Have you tried rotating and twisting the guitar with it plugged in to see if this is a RFI problem?
Checking the connections at the output jack would be a good idea too. _________________ On man....let the smoke out of another one. |

Got a meter---check for near 0 ohms continuity between the bridge and output jack nut. |

Your pots are 1952 and 1953, I believe.
Touch the pole pieces of the pickup and see if you get a buzz... if so, the windings have shorted to the pole-piece frame, meaning that you inject humm/buzz whenever you touch the ground of the guitar, including the bridge/strings. Good luck! _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |
