Toby Keith's New Single " I Like Girls That Drink Beer ". The big dog's on a roll with another Red Solo Cup Smash Hit. I remember Bill Boyd & Gene Weed and many others who said " Toby Keith " would never make it BIG in the Music Business.Little over 20 years later an,guess what? I'm proud of my good friend and his whole staff.

Heard it a couple times this week Leo. Another party song, obviously. Sure seems like he's on a roll.
One thing in his favor is that the gals sure like him and that gets him the biggest part of the battle won.

His best move was to tell Nashville what they could kiss...
Always liked Toby and more-so for his entertaining our troops...Plus I never cared for the Dixie Chicks..

I don't like girls that drink beer. It usually winds up with a big fat gut. I think Toby has a preoccupation with beeer songs. Maybe a wine song for a change.

Hey - what's that weird swoopy-stringed thing? It sounds like four slide guitaris-s-s ... wait a minute! This can't be country, it's got a melody.

You are correct, Diane. Proper English usage would be "who", not "that"--who refers to people (unless the intent was to objectify girls...speaking of which, why not say "ladies" or "women"?)

According to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary of English Usage:
Summary: In current usage, that refers to persons or things, which chiefly to things and rarely to subhuman entities, who chiefly to persons and sometimes to animals. That is definitely standard when used of persons.
Anyway, country music hasn't always been overly concerned with grammatical correctness.

It's just a song....entertainment. Not everything has to be an earth shattering political statement or profound comment on the human condition.
You can find many examples of improper grammar in song lyrics and literary works if you dig around.
I like Toby just fine. Listen to A Woman's Touch. A fine song and some great pedal steel on that one too. It might be DD, I don't know.

right mike. 'in current usage' being the key problem here. the language is constantly changing to accommodate the ignorant bastards who ignorantly bastardize such.
