You-Tube is a good tool for finding decent country. As most of us know, when you play a given song it lines up a bunch of songs similar in some way, whether by the same artist or similar in style. By spending a little time and clicking on names you never heard of, you'll find some gems (and some clunkers too, but so what!) Some of the best music is no-name independents who you will never hear on FM radio.

Check out Darl Enga, Johnathan East, Webb Dalton, Shane Worley (Check him out on "Mooney had his Back"), Kimberly Connoly and Floyd Van Laningham. You may not like all of them but I guarantee there's songs there which show country is not dead.

Why yes it is dead! Radio won't play any thing by Uncle Dave Macon,Fiddlin' John Carson, Charlie Poole. Smile Nashville gave up on them 60 years ago Crying or Very sad For them new kids that took over like Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and many more greats{And we lost a great gal the other day). Time change and moves on. 50 years ago the bands I worked for played the new songs that were the top songs of the days gone by.Back then some old timers would ask if we would play some song 30 years old(that would make it a song that was done in 1930} In a nice way we would say"We don't know it".

The real answer is, Conntry Music is not dead it's getting younger, just born again with different parents Joe

We are also traditional country. Several of the radio stations here in Texas have cut our spins down because they say we are "too country"! Never thought I'd see that here in Texas. We have steel and twin fiddles in the show, etc. I get to see Amber Digby next week in France! Can't wait for that show. Dave Biller is playing steel with her over there. I hope he'll leave some of his licks on stage so I can scoop them up!

In addition to Joni's new release "Harms Way" her daughter Olivia has just released a fine CD of her own ("Canby"); it's plenty country and right on track for the young folks...

Compared to 30yrs ago, it's nearly dead in Iowa. During the 70's and 80's you could play every night in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area if you desired. Country was alive and well at that time. All Country musicians played every friday and saturday. Now, no Country fiddle players and steel players are dying and not being replaced.
Here, Blues and Rock musicians and clubs are plenty. Classic Rock is strong in Iowa. Country music musicians and clubs are few.
How I miss the 70's & 80's!

Around here it's Karaoke, very few places want a live band whether it be country or otherwise.A few of the VFW's,Amer.Legions,Eagles clubs still book a country band but even they have succumbed to the Karaoke craze, they pay cheap prices to hear bad talent, what's a mother to do!!!!!!!!!! Mad Mad Mad

If you want to hear some top notch country music, check this out. Gena's whole album is just like this with a couple waltzes and a blues song. Junior Knight on steel and Reggie Roueffer on fiddle. Doesn't get any better than that.

Here's an Internet "radio" station playing both current TX traditional artists, and some legends.

Hey Ransom, cool--I was afraid that my attempt at humor may not have come of well, too. I didn't mean to come off like I was making fun of your thread. Texas is where it's at musically and otherwise. Winking
