Gabe's Reunion!!!

The much talked about Gabe's Reunion is really going to happen! Those of us who were a part of that piece of Nashville history have talked about doing this for several years now. It will be held at Gabe's ( now called Dumas Walker's ) on Sunday, October 2, 2005. The club will open at noon and we hope to have somebody playing by 1:00 PM. The place is ours for the entire business day. Any one who played there, sat in, or just hung out is welcome. I am in the process of contacting as many people as I possibly can. We want to have an all day jam session ( like the fish fry used to be at Fan Fair ) so I'm counting on all you guys to come ready to play! Hopefully we can make this an annual event if we can do well for the club that day. If you have any questions you can give us a call or drop us an email. Can't wait to see all of you!

This is a great idea. Some of the best Country and Western music I have ever heard was at Gabes. I can't say for sure that I can make it, but I'm going to try. Maybe Big Bob will bring the grill!!

I feel like I'm out of the loop because when I was hangin' out on lower broad there was no such place as Gabes. I guess I am dating myself...no wait, I can't date myself because I can't afford a dutch treat!

Hey Earl, don't worry about it you can be my date I usually go stag but for you I'll make an exception
I wish that I could have been here for all the excitement of Broadway in the late 60's all the way thru 70's. I have heard some pretty wild stories about the (goings-on) down there. Please come on down to Gabes reunion and tell us some war stories as a matter of fact we'll swap some.

Hey Earl,
I was just thinking the same thing. I never worked Gabes, but I worked with alot of guys who have. I hope that qualifies. I will be in town for the jam on Saturday, so this sounds like a fun way to spend Sunday. I'll see ya there.

Howdy Lyle, thanks I'll send you my address today. Now I'm not running the jam but I'll betcha Mike would love to have another steel player at the big reunion.
That was the whole principle that Gabes was built on so bring'er on my friend

That's right Big Bob. You can't have too many steels at Gabes. We proved that years ago. And BTW Big Bob, You'll be doing all the pickin' you want that day.

Hey Mike that's cool sign me up I'm ready for an old timey guitar and steel guitar pull. As far as the number of steels go I think the most I ever saw set up there at one time was 5 and they were every where.
There were 3 on the stage and 2 down on the dance floor and that was along with me and a fiddle player and the rest of the band. Let me see if I can remember all of the steelers that night.
Cal Sharp, Jay Andrews, Mike Cass,
dave Robbins and Mike Sweeney himself hee hee. Thats give or take a couple of steelers

I certainly hope that as many of you as possible will plan on being with us. We just lost another friend Friday. Donnie Elam, who played bass, was found dead at home Friday morning. I spoke with him on Tuesday and he was really excited about seeing everyone again. We're losing too many friends. Please be with us if you can.

Mike I can't believe Donnie passed I was just thinking about him the other day. Life is so short and you never know when its your time. I am saddened by this news. Did Donnie have any family left around here?

I can't believe that Donny's gone. I just talked to him about a month ago. I'm sure glad I had a chance to have a long talk with him. This is definetely a rough year for musicians. This is very sad.
