I want to announce the fact that my new CD "Out of Nowhere" will be released Labor Day weekend at the International Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis.

The CD is a straight-ahead Jazz CD (I am a Jazz guitarist), the only difference is the fourth piece is a steel guitar played by none other than Maurice "Reece" Anderson. The drummer and accoustic bassist are two of New York City's finest Jazz players. I always play with them when I am in New York and it was a pleasure to play with them on the CD. They flew into Dallas to do the session and loved the steel guitar in a Jazz setting. I wanted to do something different by having steel on my Jazz CD.

Chuck Lettes got me back into playing the major steel shows and that is where I got the idea. I knew Reece was the one to do it. The playing was fantastic (Reece was on the top of his game). Even the NY Jazz cats loved the sound.

For more information you can email me at jstahlhut@earthlink.net or order it directly from me. I will not be able to fill orders until September 5, 2005. The CDs will cost $16.00 with $2.50 shipping in the US.

The bassist's name is Alan Hampton and the drummer is Reggie Quinerly. They are hot. They backed us up beautifully and both played great solos. Did I mention this was recorded live in the studio? It is truly a Jazz recording in all respects. There are 11 tunes including "Out of Nowhere" which has a 3/4 intro and ending.

I look forward to hearing this, Jim. I looked through Reece's charts for the sessions and they were, to say the least, challenging.

His protests to the contrary, I'm sure Reece did a killer job. I'm anxious to add this CD to my collection.

Jim gave me an advance CD, and the recording is wonderful. Having picked with Jim for over twenty years, I continue to be impressed with Jim's fine lead and backup work on the guitar. The band is tight, and of course, Maurice sounds great on the steel guitar. If you love jazz standards, this is one fine recording. It's in heavy rotation at my house.

It was both a pleasure and a privilege to play on Jim's jazz CD. All the guys were a lot of fun....but when the red light came on they immediately got very serious and put their heart and soul into the music and sounded absolutely great.

I want to thank Jim for allowing me to be a part of something which he said has been his dream for months. As some of you may remember, Jim is also a great steel player.

Jim tells me he captured that which he was looking for, and I congratulate him on a job well done. I also commend him for his vision, professionalism, commitment, musicianship, and positive attitude.

Reece, thanks for the kind words. I learned from this that Reece is a musician dedicated to the art of music and is a true gentleman.

Reece and I will be playing in the MSA room at the Convention in St. Louis. No definate times, just when ever it works. He said he will be playing his 12 string lap steel (We played duo at the TSGA show in March and he sounded great on that lap steel). Hope lot's of you will be able to see us play together. I'm sure we will play some cuts from the CD and who knows what else. It's always a great pleasure to play with a musician of his caliber.

Like I said to Reece in the studio "That's some mighty fine table guitar playin"

The tunes on the CD are in order: On Green Dolphin Street, Sail Away (Beautiful bossa by Tom Harrell), The Nearness of You, Whisper Not (By Benny Golson), Cherokee (some cool arrangement tricks by Reece), This One's For Barbara (light 3/4 jazz tune written by me), Masquerade, Out of Nowhere, Spring is Here, Old Cowhand (killer solo by Reece), and Aug 'N' Out (Out blues written by me).

The flow and tunes sound great. I would have to say all 4 of us played great in the roles of backup and soloing. Check it out.

Thanks, Jim

I can hardly wait to get my copy, I'm a huge fan of Jazz guitar and steel guitar, so how much better can you get. I've heard Jim play with Chuck Lettes a few times and Maurice is one of my all time favorite jazz steel players. Who will have them at ISGC, MSA?

The CDs will be in the MSA room. My wife, Barbara, and I will be in charge of selling them. So you can just look us up (we should just be hanging out in the ballroom). Also, you might ask Reece when he and I will be playing together in the MSA room and we will certainly be selling them then. Chuck and I are playing at 11:30 on the main stage Saturday morning (Barbara too). So you can catch us after the show, too.

I agree 100% with David and this really is some of Reece's best work. He is such a natural jazzer.

Today I got an email from the famous Jazz guitarist John Scofield and he loved the CD, too. My hope is that both the Jazzers and Steelers alike will enjoy this CD.

Thanks one more time to Reece for doing it and thanks to David for his reply. David, what is your email address?

I got a copy of this CD at ISGC also, and I agree, it is great. I am a fan of older Jazz music, some of the newer stuff gets kind of tiresome. All of the musicians did a great job.
