Steel Guitar Gathering In Bowie, Tx

On Sunday July the 22nd, there will be a gathering of steel guitar players from the North Texas Southern Oklahoma area in Bowie, Texas.

We had 16 steel guitars at the last gathering. I am hoping for at least that many again. There will be a concession booth inside this facility that will sell food and drinks to help pay for the cost of using the facility. We will have a band, and we will have a good time. Bring stuff for sale, and bring your guitar if you want to play.

Send me your email address if you would like to get on our mailing list.

I will be reminding everyone about it as the time gets closer.

It will be at Silver Strings in Bowie, Tx. at 2:00.
It is a nice facility.

I am excited about this. It has been since November we had the last gathering. I will not be there with bells on but I will be there with my steel. I am ready to play some good country for a change.

The wife and I are hoping to make it out to this one. Last one we attended was at the church in Ponder before the fire. We sure enjoyed the good music.
I'm new to this instrument and hope to pick up some pointers and/or get some ideas....
Hopefully it will be another great turnout! :P

I have visited with three steel players in the last week. All of them are planning on being there. We may have a good turnout for the meeting. Bring your steels and we will jam and have a great time getting to know each other. I have always said jamming is fun but making new friends is enjoyable as well.

Thanks, see you there at 2:00. Think it would be OK to bring my dog along? He's a sweet old lab and I hate to leave him home alone.

We're looking forward to the Bowie get-together. Doug Martin and the Rustlers will be the back-up band. I hope you all enjoy us as much as we enjoy pickin'!!! Doug Martin singing, Gene Brown on fiddle, Bruce Lee on bass, and Brian Sutton on drums, and me on Steel!! What we lack in talent, we make up for in volume and enthusiasim!!!! Doug is a great singer too!
We are looking forward to meeting everyone and hearing you play!!!! See you Sunday!!!!!!!!!!

Cliff, I look forward to getting to jam with you guys. I have known Doug Martin for years but I do not remember ever playing music with him. You mentioned Bruce Lee playing, is he a karate expert?

One day away from having a good time. Nothing like several steel players getting together and having fun. It appears there will be at least 10 players coming to the jam. It will start about 2:00 P.M.

Guys, here is the address for the Bowie Gathering today.

Silver Strings Entertainment Center. 500 N. Smythe - Bowie, Texas 76230

We have several players committed to play with Cliff Trent and his band. I don't think we will have enough time for everyone to get to play. I am not going to play, so there will be room for someone else to play.

But at least come and listen to several of the players that have committed to play. Plan on eating there if you can. That is what will help pay for the building.

See you there. Let's enjoy being around steel guitars and steel guitar players.

Wayne Morton,

I hate to hear that you won't be able to make it to Bowie today. I hope you can make the next one. I have found a nice place at the old downtown theatre in Gainseville for the next one.

Enjoy the party and the kids.

Well, Another gathering has come an gone. Not too many steelers at this meeting compared to the last one. A few came but did not want to play. Those that did play were Bobby Dixon, Louie Hallford, Cliff Trent and myself. Curtis Hogue had aprevious engagement and had to leave early. Jackie Harmon came over and played bass guitar on the set with Louie Hallford and he sang as well. Larry Lange from Wichita Falls came and sang as well. Doug Martin and the Ramblers were the house band for this meeting. A big Thank You to Doug and his band for setting up their equiptment and helping out at this meeting . Thanks to all who came whether you played or not. It was good to meet some new steel players and visit with friends. Thanks to Mark Greenway who did all the footwork in getting this set up. I look forward to our next meeting.

I got to meet and make new friends, which makes it even better!!! It was great to see Jackie Harmon again and hear his great singing and pickin' Thanks to Paul King and Louie Halford for covering my many mistakes!! Thanks again to Mark for having us!!!
