Hanging It Up
I have been debating this issue for the last couple of weeks now . It both saddens and infuriates me to be in a situation that forces decisions like this but as the saying goes you do what you gotta do.
With my wife's illness , lack of gigs and rejection after rejection trying to get help with her medical needs I am hanging up a music carrees I have loved since a teen.
I will be selling out a ton of stuff so watch for bargains galore.
I willl be listing this stuff as soon as I get it sorted out.
There will be package deal , steel, pedals, rack etc,.
bargains, bargains..
This has to be sold for things ssuch as cooloing vest, scooter etc..
without becoming political or what have you - its a shame this country can take but never give back.

David,
I just looked up your posts, since you became a member, and what I'm reading, you've been selling equipment the entire time.
One thing though, you said you were just a beginner into music, steel, etc. This was only back in 2007.
It sure looks to me as if you've been buying and selling all along. A musician since a very young age?
I'm missing something, but what it is, I guess I don't know?
Sorry to hear of your wife's illness. But maybe you should simply say you want to sell more equipment, as you've been doing all along, and your selling off some of what you don't want.
I'm sure confused, especially after reading over your past posts since joining the forum.......

to answer you - yes I have always bought, sold trade etc. but who hasnt?
That is human nature - to try to better the stuff you play.musicians do it all the time.
yes I have been a musician since my early teens- dont know why you question that one.I started taking 6 string guitar when I was 9 , began playing in church and some other bands when I was 12. Started teaching at 16. Recorded with bands when 19. I am also a registered teacher with MEL BAY -since 23.
Started in dobro when 31. non pedal and pedal both around 2007.
This isnt an easy decision for me - to walk away from the music scene , but under the circumstances I feel it is a decision that I have to make. And believe me, this conclusion wasnt an overnight brain strom. I have wrestled with it and talked to friends about it for weeks.
Sorry you feel so appalled at the way my life is - maybe you might want to pay my bills and walk in my shoes for a while.

David, you said:
Maybe because it sorta reminds me of a man named Ron who did much the same. I won't go into that.
I have no intentions of walking in your shoes nor anyone else's. I've walked plenty far in my own.
David, maybe you should click on your own name, and then click on "Read All Posts From David" and see if you then see what I mean. It might help you to better understand.
That's it, I said what was on my mind, just as I did when Ron came online doing what he did.
Sorry if it upset you, but it did me too, after reading up on all of your posts to date, and reading much the same, many times over...
No David, that's not it at all. What I do have a problem with is anyone, laying on guilt trips to folks on the forum, for whatever reason.Sorry you feel so appalled at the way my life is - maybe you might want to pay my bills and walk in my shoes for a while.

Hanging it up reply
Hello David, sorry to hear of your family situation, don't let government agencies get to you, I am struggling with the same issues with a family member, but my love for music will never die, and I will not be intimidated by government agencies, in martial arts we face our troubles head on, hang in there, these things pass, Steve B.

I myself have had my dealings with Ron . I am not him nor am I trying to lay blame or guilt on anyone.
No you didnt hurt my feelings by your remarks but I think under the circumstances I dont see any point of defending myself for walking away. My family has always and will continue to be first in my life and I will sell or take what ever action possible to take care of her.
Its not an easy thing to do my any means , music has always been my friend , therepy ,etc.
Mr Black
Thanks for the kind words. This government assistance and health care stuff is some big joke. One can only hope that it will get better soon. Rejection after rejection is a hard pill to swallow when you work , pay taxes and do everything according to the rules they set in front of you, but when you need help they find excuse after excuse as to why they cant help pay for medicine, docttor bills and such. But I gaurantee the drug dealer, welfare mom and illegals are welcome..Just my take on it.
My love for music will never go away , but it is just something that I cant justify doing any longer at this point and time.

David, I don't know you, and I do feel really bad about your wife's illness. I just think it is a slap in the face to those fellow forum members that donated a lot of equipment and money to you, and now you have it up for sale. I too would like to make a liviing playing music, but it just isn't possible for a lot of us, so I work 2 TWO jobs to support things that I need to take care of. Just saying.

David, You made a very strong plea for equipment and many forum members very kindly donated equipment and money to help you to be able to continue playing music. To sell the equipment donated to help you is probably not good. Instead just return the equipment to those who donated it. By doing that your forum friends will respect you and continue to be your friends. We will continue to pray for you and your wife and to offer assistance as we have done in the past . Just some friendly advice!

I don't have any take on this particular instance, but I do know this: if you live in a state with no personal income tax, and a state that offers big tax breaks to large corporations and doodly to a small business owner, you can't expect them to fund much in the way of health care or social help. When my spine started going south I took a look around where I was living, Florida, and there was NOTHING from the state. And I looked at Texas, where I used to live, and again nothing.
Like it or not, the very same states that have social programs for poor people are the same states that have better supplemental health care for everybody else. If you live in a city like Austin or Miami where you can see the homeless people crawling up out of the streambeds in the morning, you can be absolutely certain they're not going to have anything for you either - all the tax breaks go to the big campaign contributors - oil, pharmaceuticals, "tourism" meaning billionaire corporations like Hilton & Hyatt... it's easy to follow the money, before you go accusing the welfare queens of taking your money, do a little research. The divide in this country is between the very rich, and everybody else - including you.
