Ok, reason I am asking is this. Seems to be several different tunings listed on Brad's page for C6.
The tuning listed on the chart for 8 string lap steel-C6 is, high to low, ECAGECAG.
This is not listed on Brad's page.
Adding major's or minor's creates problems.
As a beginner at lap steel just confusing.
If its a spade, don't call it a shovel.
Just my two sense, mot adjusted for inflation!

Hi, Frederick, Any 6th chord by definition contains the root, third, fifth, and sixth of it's parent major scale.
C major scale: R(1)-C 2-D 3-E 4-F 5-G 6-A 7-B
A C6 chord, or tuning, therefore is made up of the notes C,E,G,A in any order or combination. Most popular tunings have the C chord spelled just that way in the center of the tuning, with various notes on the upper and lower stings, for various reasons. If it contains only the CEGA notes, it's a C6 tuning.

Seems to me that the pedal steel tunings are usually callet E9th and C6th and non-pedal tunings without the "th".

Most people use terms interchangeably. I don't think it has anything to do with pedals or no pedals. It's just the name of a chord.
