This coming Sunday, September 9th, 2012, Buck Smith and Friends will take the stage once again at the Huckleberry Festival at Daubenspeck Park in Bingen, Washington, just across the Columbia River from Hood River, Oregon and I-84. Showtime is 3:00pm and the music continues until 5:00pm, closing the weekend festival.

Buck Smith grew up in Glenwood where his older sister Margaret taught him, at a very young age, the ins and outs of music theory and instrumentation. He was hooked for life, and eventually found himself working as a songwriter for Lawrence Welk; some forum old-timers may remember Buck from his years touring with Merle Travis, traveling the world throughout the 1940ʼs and ‘50ʼs, writing, singing and playing guitar.

Now in his 80’s and back home in the Columbia Gorge, the ravages of space, time and gravity have slowed his gait somewhat but he’s still got the master’s touch, and this weekend’s show promises to be a real treat for fans of authentic western music.

Local hot-shots Barney Connolly, Dave Grafe, Rick Hewlett, Chic Preston and Carry Williams will accompany Buck for this, his 51st Huckleberry Festival appearance, and it promises to be a real hum-dinger, hope to see some of you there!

Wow Dave, you have been in on the most interesting gigs lately... good show my man!

Boy do I wish the miles were less, and I was younger... I'd be up there cheering you on my friend!

Keep it up, and I will follow with interest.
