Geoff Queen will play the featured artist set this month at the Austin Steel Guitar Co-op Jam. Geoff is one of the young, up and coming pedal steel guitarists in Austin, TX. He is a man equally well-versed in country, swing and pop music styles and has played with varied artists including rising country star Sunny Sweeney, as well as famed singer-songwriters Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis. Geoff will be playing a set of country and swing tunes, standards and originals.

The featured artist set will be followed by a round robin. Our backup musicians this month will be Charlie Irwin on bass, Rob Harding on guitar, and John Chandler on drums.

The jam will be Sunday, May 20, from 2-5 p.m. at the 290 West Bar & Grill, 12013 Hwy. 290 W. Austin, TX. Come out to a great steel hang.

Geoff Queen is a Forumite, a good friend, and a formidable player. I will be in attendance and I urge others here in TX to come listen to the Geoffster's offerings.

Coming soon in a featured performance: Ricky Davis!

I know you are at the Texas Natural & Western Swing Festival in San Marcos today, so this is just a reminder that the Austin Steel Guitar Co-op Jam is happening tomorrow -- Sunday, May 20, from 2-5 p.m. at the 290 West Bar & Grill. The afternoon will kick off with a featured artist set by Geoff Queen. Here's a sneak preview of his set list:

Deep Water
Above and Beyond
Take these Chains From My Heart
Don't Get Around Much Anymore
I Fall To Pieces
Waltz Across Texas
She Thinks I Still Care
Blue Monk
Pedal Clatter

Geoff's set will be followed by a round robin. Back up band will be Rob Harding on guitar, Charlie Irwin on bass, and John Chandler on drums. Bring your steels and gear for playing, showing, swapping, selling. Bring along friends to listen and hang out. See you there!
(Ok, now I'm off to San Marcos...)
Very Happy

Had a great time at Austin Steel Guitar Co-op jam today. Geoff Queen played a killer set, seamlessly backed up by John Chandler on drums, Charlie Irwin on bass, and Rob Harding on guitar. Then we went around the room and each steeler played a tune on their own with the band, followed by a round robin. Swingin' Doors, Caravan, Farewell Party, The Waltz You Saved For Me, Bubbles in My Beer, Steelin' the Blues, Boot Heel Drag, Chinatown, Alley Cat (led by Stephen Cowell, which actually works quite well on the steel) and a big Steel Guitar Rag at the end. Master steelers Neil Flanz and Herb Steiner were in the house, and Dave Biller jumped into the fray with his Shobud. It was a great afternoon.
Next month's jam is Sunday, June 10. Mark your calendars!

It was a very fun show and jam. I have some fuzzy low light cell phone pics which are nice because none of us have any wrinkles or lines.. HA!
I believe we had 6 steels set up and everyone got their licks in
Next time we will get a real camera out there.
Thanks to everyone for coming out and the musicians in the band are a top notch bunch of pro players.

I'd like to thank Ken, Rose, and Herb for giving me the opportunity to play at this months meeting. I had a wonderful time playing and listening to everyone else. If you're in the Central Texas area I highly recommend coming to next months meeting, it's a great time. My wife got some video, if I can figure out how to chop it up I'll post some of it. Thanks again guys, see you next month!

Geoff
You played your tail off yesterday and it's no secret why Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis value your playing. We hope you make coming to the Austin Steel Co-op a regular monthly event.
