i do love country music and my single neck steel, but there`s some songs on the set-list that have a jazzy approach f.e. "king of the road" where my E9 stuff doesn`t sound great... Confused
anybody has some hints or you tube clips where they show how to handle that kind of songs?
i`m not a jazz player, just want some tricks on that! Wink

drop your E's and for the chord of E play at the 5th fret. every major chord using the A&B pedal is two frets lower . that how the 12 uni works.

I believe both Buddy and Jeff Newman have courses on C6 playing on E9.
Remember, the Gatlin Brothers' "Houston" and "Lady Takes a Cowboy" were both E9.

John, that's how one Uni tuning works: the other starts with the "Es" lowered, you raise them for the country pockets.
Bb6: the Rodney Dangerfield of tunings

Another resource...

Mickey Adams has several "faux C6th" instructional videos on YouTube.

Here's a couple...

Any minor chord postion can be played over the relative major, ie; C maj/a min. Some standard runs and riffs with Es lowered can run into the A&B pedals down two frets up. Using strings 9, 7, 5 up and down the neck make for a nice jazzy sound, and you can use A&B pedals for added flavor. Also if you're in that Es lowered position (for example in the key of G) go to the higher up open-no pedals position of G and grip strings 4,5 and 7. Play around up there bouncing of the A and B pedals and moving up and down the neck.

Don't forget about timing. Some of the neatest stuff I've ever heard came from the timing of stuff and not the lick itself.
