I'm on my way down from Naples to Key West to do an open-air gig this coming Friday and Saturday evening. It's at the Red Barn Theatre on Duval, and there'll be some local singers as well as some imported talent. It's not strictly country, but it tends to lean in that direction.

I'll be a sort-of Music Director on this, so it'll be me who assigns the fills for each song - I'll try and keep it from being too steel-heavy....

If you happen to be down that way, come and say 'hi' to me and 'virtuoso fiddler', Drew Perkins - - I expect we'll get a little golf in, too......

How can you beat it. Bone fishing maybe some tarpon fishing in the daytime, and listing to some great music in the evening. Key West...One of my favorite places in this universe. Wish I could be there !

One of my favorite places also. Was stationed there at the Sonar School during my navy career. Have played music all over that delightful island. Look up my drummer buddy, Duke Yannacone. Duke was a DJ on WKWF, city policeman and musician. Busy guy, now he is their lead Detective from what I have heard. Don't know if he is still playing drums anymore, but he would be a good one to know in any event..Give all my regards. Envious here too.

I'd like to be able to afford to live in the Keys, too. But it's not bad where I'm at in the west central Gulf Coast area (Citrus County).

My wife's brother was stationed at the Key West NAS and my wife wintered and worked at Boyd's Campground several years, before we met.

The only problem, other than the cost of living is the potential for Hurricanes. We get them in all parts of Florida but with only one way out it's tough trying to evacuate, if needed.

Hey Roger.. hope you have a great time in Key West...I think I am the only Steel player in the Keys and I won't be there to see you play.. I am in Illinois for a few months..
By the way any of you steels players come down let me know and we will go fishing..nothing better than fishing with steel players.show me some steel licks and I will show you some fishing licks. You never can know enough on the steel. I have a 43' sportfish and a back country boat and do we catch fish...
Regards

Just got back from the Keys, caught a bunch of fish, go down several times a year, what a great place to relax and just hang out.

I'm glad to hear there are steel players down there.. hope to meet some of you someday. its a great place just to hang out and do nothing.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

It went pretty well, especially the three songs we did with Jessica Welch (a regular 'Patsy' on some of the 'APC' shows I've done). It's certainly a great place, and we had an enthusistic reception.

I used my two NV-112s without being through the PA, and they sounded terrific, even in the open-air. Great amps!

Two rounds of golf (it's a bit pricy, as there's just the one golf course in KW) - I lost one and won one.

It's REALLY expensive down there in general - property has risen in 'value' everywhere, but nowhere more than this part of the world. As for me living here in Naples, I can assure you it's pretty tight sometimes - especially with MY job.

I regret to reveal that I'm not a fishing enthusiast. Almost heresy, I know, but there it is; if I'm going to get sunburned, I want it to be on the golf-course....
