To day is the day, I am going to set my 8 string lap steel to C6th, Give it a try. however [ and this may ba a 50%-50% draw]. BOTTOM TO TOP [E G A C E G A C] OR [ A C E G A C E G] YOUR RECOMENDATION AND WHY?

I'm glad this was posted as I have the same question. I'm taking on-line lessons from Reece Anderson and he has me tune my 6 string to EGACEG (bottom to top). Will the tabs for regular C6 work with this tuning?? I haven't seen anything for the EGACEG tuning.

Since most of your melody is going to be played on the top four strings.......

why not start "THINKING".........from the TOP down.

E C A G E C# C and whatever on the bottom.

If you really want to get everything C6th has to offer, you'd be hard-pressed to do better than this.

I'd personally forget that top G string......

Ray, so what I see you recomending is E.C.A.G.E.C# A G for 8 string? Thinking Top down makes sence. However as I look at you suggestion again are you saying E C A G E C# C G, or A? But why the C# followed by the C. I would think that C# A G.

The C# string can be an essential and versatile element in playing the C6th tuning, provided you're a melody player.

FORGET for a moment the technicalities of MUSIC......

Go to the 5th fret F chord position.

Roll the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th strings.......from the bottom up.

next Roll the 3rd, 4th & 5th strings......

next go to the fourth fret and roll the 6th,5th,4th & 3rd strings......

next drop down to the third fret and again roll the 6th, 5th, 4th & 3rd strings.

(Should you choose to do so, you could also top off that last roll with the 1st (E) string on top.)

You've just completed a turn-around from F to C7th.This is a universal turn-around. JERRY BYRD used it for the intro' to his Mercury recording of "Coconut Grove". You can also use that procedure in a wide variety of other playing examples........some of which can be heard on the JERRY BYRD Fan Club site.

Under no circumstances attempt to play BOTH the C and C# strings at the same time, okay? The bottom string (8th) can be ANY PITCH you choose to use as long as you can easily rake it with your thumb.

This is a Joaquin version I had for a long time, you should try it out and see what you think. I am pretty sure this is one of the tunings he used on "Dance-O-Rama."
