Welcome to the forum Barry.I remember watching you play with "Middle Road County" in the seventies and you were the first live player I'd ever seen. You were playing an "Anstead" 12 string(before Noel changed the name to Anapeg).I was hooked! I think I had my own guitar within a month.Enjoy the forum mate and we might see you at the Brisbane festival.

Hey Bob your memory is good as i don't remember the 2 extra strings.I hope i gave you a good impression of the Steel as for certain you ran past me in your playing ability and well deserved i might add.The Anstead guitar was a great Steel and served me well--12 strings is a blank .Cheers Barry.[/quote]

G'day Barry,

A big Sydney welcome to you. I'm sure that like the rest of us you will spend countless hours in here. Like Jerry, I'd be lost without it too.

Take care, Nick

Hi Barry
Good to see you on the forum mate.
Your mention of (the late great) Sid Downs reminded me of a time in about 1980 when he sat me down and showed me the "proper" way to write out TAB. I still think he had the best system ever - it caters for everyone.
For an example go to the search and put in 'tab for Nola' (no inverted commas). You can add Jim Priebe for the author if you like.
While you're at it have a go at playing it - writing the tab was easier than playing it but it's a great single string exercise.
Hope to see you all in June in Brissy.

G'day Barry, great to have you onboard with the forum! If you have any, some pics of your steels, resphonics etc would be always interesting. Band photos, too.
The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.
