I'd love some advise:

I'm in the market for a great tube workhorse for my 1954 Stringmaster and am always looking for great boo-wah.

My budget is around $650-$700 and I love old tube amps (especially Fender) so I'm thinking of one of two things:

1. Weber kit (5E5A)

15" speaker

–or–

2. A PA referbed amp from Skip Simmons

Both are in my price range but I'm wondering what you guys think? Especially the lap steel guys.

Thanks!
nate

It doesn't look like they give you the output wattage on those amps. What are they?

Tweed deluxe ?

If it's a tweed deluxe or tweed amp, have a look at lil' dawg amps. Roger

...the weber kit looks like a good deal for the buck. you can't buy anything handwired for less...

...of course you get the added benefit of being able to know it's properly assembled lol

The weber kits are really very low quality. So are the speakers (sorry to be Debbie downer - its sad but true)

Check out the mojotone kits - if you require good documentation, you can buy them from Marsh amplification.

If you are going to lay down that kind of money, you want it to go towards something fantastic. Weber has really taken a slide lately.

...the vibrolux has to be one of my all time favorites, but sadly not quite enuf headroom for pedal steel. guess you could maybe purchase newer larger trannies...

this amp can't be beat for steel or guitar imo...looks like somebody tried to build a dc filament supply in it? or maybe just an auxiliary to run some 6550's or something...

don't be scared of an old fender...
