advice needed on picks

I'm new at PSG and when I'm ready to start taking it to gigs I will be sitting behind the steel with a tele strapped on switching back and forth. I've played chicken pickin style guitar with a flat pick and 2 bare fingers for years, I've forced myself to get used to the thumb and finger picks for steel..so should I learn to use thumb and finger on the tele or flat pick on steel???
