well.. kinda.. now that you're here..
It IS over 20 years old, and its not really MY record.. BUT, It is major label [Chrysalis] at a major studio[Bearsville] and a big time producer[Lenny Kaye].. However the albuum didn't go anywhere, as a matter of fact, it didn't do as well as their independent label albums.. The band was devastated at the lack of push from the label, and didn't last much longer.. They were a great band, very well respected .. They were contemporaries of REM, playing the same venues, and getting the same college and small market airplay, but REM got the breaks and Winter Hours didn't .. I love this song... Its not country, its not hard rock, its not folk rock, but has elements.. tough to classify, but I like it,and I loved playing on it.. Even got a short solo!.. Steel is an old MSA Classic with a Sho Bud pickup.. enjoy.. bob

Bob this was a great band! Back in the eighties I was looking out for good music, not very interested in Punk or New Wave. There were a few good acts I found such as the Call, Wire Train, Swimming Pool Q's...

The little arpeggiated run I do from the IV to the V to the I at about 2:20 is my favorite piece of steel playing that I have ever done, in the many recordings i have played on.. I usually detest everything I play, and am disgusted even hearing it back, but that stupid little nothing of a figure is something I just always loved for some odd reason... It fit the transition well. usually I stumble all over that sort of thing.. bob

Duh... Yes Donny, my mistake, 2;20.. Its not much, but I always liked it, and for me thats a lot, because I hate everything I play!

Sounds Great!!! IMO Ahead of the times, these days that would be classified as the "Red Dirt" sound, people are raving about that stuff...get that heard by the right people and you have a hit!!

A little too optimistic in my opinion, since the group is no longer together
But a re-release would seem to be the right thing to earn them some belated respect, and maybe a little money.

Bob, you certainly made the most of your opportunities in that song. The production was a bit bombastic for my tastes, but I enjoyed your playing.

Thanks for the nice replies guys.. I always think about my "failures" as a musician, you know, never really made it out of the club circuit etc, but once in a while I think about this record... yeah it wasn't a big seller, maybe 50K copies, but you know, a lot of much better musicians than I am never got a chance to play on a major label record, with national release.
hell, I even heard the song on the radio back in the late 80's and ran around the shop screaming, "Hey thats me playing on the radio!".. They were good days indeed in retrospect.

btw, Joe G, I used to have Pickin' My Pleasures decades ago.. loaned it out to another steel player, and he ran off with it, never to be heard from again.. It was a wonderful steel album, by a great player! Thanks again for the kind words... bob
