Wasn't able to get there until saturday afternnon and missed some really good performances but enjoyed the remainder of saturday and sunday very much !! There'll be more posts from folks that were there--I'll just mention how great it was to see Larry King's old group, "Country Classics", working on John Buffington's set.The vocals at this show were so very exceptional--of coarse Curtis Potter is one of the best you'll hear, as well as Rob Parker, and Dewayne Bowman but folks you havn't heard it all til John Terry and Larry King hit the mics !!
Fred Justice had a great set on saturday night too backed by lead guitarist and vocalist Dewayne Bowman, Johnny Cox on bass, Roy Rosetta on keyboards and Paul Polish on drums. Fred played some great numbers and had that Rains singing like a happy canary !!! (I incidently reminded him that he forgot to install any of those licks in mine)
John Hughey featured Curtis Potter on his set saturday night but we did talk him into a rendition of "Look At Us" before closing.
Jr. Knight had a great set on sunday morning--what a great player and gentleman --he is loved and respected by so many--
enough from me -- I'm sure there will be many more comments and posts on the show - it was good to see old friends again and make some new ones --great job OSGA members-
Bill.

Bill...thanks for those kind words. I thought our Country Classics set came off good considering we've not been on stage since last years OSGA show...seems we've been in "halftime" as a band..personally, I'm ready for the third quarter.
I'd like to take a moment to congratulate the members and officers of the OSGA and while I don't know everyone in the club, special mention is due John Buffington, Marty Neer, Rick Crowe, Clovis Richards, and Doyle Huff for their tireless efforts to make this event a success. They MADE it happen.
Special thanks goes out to Jody Sanders for keeping the time and making sure we didn't run over on any player. That makes such a difference to the success of the show and on behalf of the staff band I offer a heartfelt thanks.
After playing this show for three years now, I'm stating from that from my perspective, it was the smoothest running show...bar none...again I credit the club and Jody Sanders for that. I know that Mr Compston was just thrilled !
I hestitate to single out any individual for fear of offending someone but I have to say that one of the highlites was Jody Cameron...total command of his instrument.I also appreciate Junior Knight who drove all night to keep his word and play the show. Finally, if you missed this one, you passed over on a great show.
[This message was edited by Larry King on 30 May 2005 at 08:19 AM.]

Bill and Larry thanks so much for your kind words about the show. Sure we worked hard to get things together, but the performers and the people who came to the show are the ones that made it a true success. I want to thank all of you. It is always great to see old friends and make new ones as I did this weekend. I want to thank Jody Cameron for becoming one of those new friends. His appearance, attitude, and playing ability is impresive. Thanks to Jody Sanders for bringing him to the show. You out there who put on steel shows need to consider this young man. We certainly will next year. I want to thank all of our distributors for chosing to be there. In behave of the Oklahoma Steel Guitar Assoccation, Thanks to everyone for making the show a success.

I can only second what has already been said. As everyone knows this show was dedicated in honor of Don Compston, and I have to say, this to me was the "show of all shows." Players played better than I've ever heard and Mr. Curtis Potter and Mr. John Hughey were on hand to deliver one of the finest concerts you could ever want to hear -a very fitting tribute to Don, because Don loved their talents equally and held them in the highest regard. I want to thank each and every person for the love and support shown to the OSGA this weekend, and the officers and Board of Directors, you're the greatest to work with - it was totally overwhelming - Don would have been so proud and who knows but what maybe the good Lord may have allowed him a front row seat!
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for the support of the OSGA and honoring our hero Don Compston.
John Buffington, Pres. OSGA

I also thought it was outstanding! I was a little distraught about the 30.00 admission, but I got over it. It was for a good cause. And talk about talent, plenty to be found

Thanks to the OSGA for a great convention again. As what was said above, I know that Don would have been proud of the guys. The back-up band was great(again). Roy, Paul, Larry and DeWayne. Best 4 piece band since the Buckaroos!!!!! Also for those of you that wasn't there at the last, you missed a great set by J.D.Walters and his band. All of the pickers were in top form and its hard to say which one I enjoyed the most. Again, thanks John, Doyle, Marty, Rick, Clovis and all the guys and gals for a great weekend. You're the best!! Thanks to John B., Doyle H., and the rest of the OSGA for having me. Also, thanks to the great band (Paul Polish; Roy Rosetta; Dewayne Bowman)and to Mr. Larry King for all his help and enthusiasm. What great talent and great guys! Thanks also to Jody Sanders for letting me intrude on his set.

Joan and I had a great time in Tulsa as always. I must admit though, 9:00 am is not easy on an old honky tonk player like me. I got to hear a couple players I had not heard before. Fred Justace and Jody Cameron, both were a breath of fresh air. Great playing guys. Curtis Potter was great along with Mr. Hughey. And it was great to hear Junior Knight, he always lites a fire under me. Until next year.

It looks like about everyone that has posted so far, also played on the show. Well here's from a listener;
I really enjoyed this show, I have been to about the last 5 or 6 shows and I think this was one of the best. Some of the more well known regulars weren't there, but there were some really good local players. Some of the well known players tend to do the same set every show, and it gets a little old. It was really good to hear some different players. Gene Crain, J.D. Walters and The Brazos Valley Boys, Jody Cameron, and Fred Justice all played some things that were a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed all the players, keep up the good work OSGA.
OOPS, I almost forgot, the backup band was top notch too, Larry King, Roy Rosetta, Paul Polish, and DeWayne Bowman just outdid themselves.
