Stoney Edwards? I met him in 1973 when he came to Lubbock Texas to do a show, and the band I was in backed him up. He really Impressed me. He sang great, and had some good songs. "She's my rock, and I ain't a gonna throw her away" (before George Jones sang it) was a hit on the radio. He was a gentleman, and a lot of fun to be around. I ran into him in Nashville a few years later, and he remembered me. When I asked him why he never got to where I thought he should have with his music, he said a major lable signed him, and put him on the shelf. In other words, they cut records on him, but never released them. The record company was keeping him from signing with a competing record company. I guess it was done a lot back then to keep some one new from comming along and pulling the rug out from under their "Star", with whom they had invested a lot of promotional money.
I havn't heard anything about him in YEARS. does anyone know if he is still living, and if so what's he doing? Thanks in advance. Stoney Edwards, where are you?

Stoney lost both his legs to diabetes, as I recall. He also had stomach cancer and died in 1997.

EDIT: I just Googled SE and learned he lost his leg in an accident. The old memory just ain't what it used-ta be.

Thanks for the reply, Herb. I'm sorry to learn of this. I don't think he ever got a good break, or he would have recorded hit after hit. Is there someplace that may have some of his recordings? I'm playin' the Ernest Tubb record shop with Billy Keeble (C.D. release party)in Ft. Wth June 11, and I'll ask Jim Stenson, or A.J. I bet if they don't have something, they can find it.
Thanks again. Chuck.
