I think I would like to buy a fender steel king amp. so not ever being around this amp before, Im looking for advise from the people who know. Are they the best for the money . Is there a comparable amp that would be better or equal to and be in same price range? I am trying to get a good sounding setup. I am in north central Nebraska and not much advise here. I think there was 4 pedal steels in Nebraska and I got 2 of them, and cant hear either one. haha. Anyway Thanks for the help.

Roger,

You might try this question in the electronics section. I personally like the Twin Reverb amp (tubes) better.

The head version, Dual Showman Reverb, (vintage) is the same amp in a head only cabinet.

Roger --- There's a great session 500 in Salina for $175 if your interested.

Cheaper than beef. A bit under two bucks a pound.
Session 500 is, IMO, the best sounding Peavey steel amp. But heavy.

I own a Steel King with a 1501-4 BW speaker in it, a Session 500, a NV112, and I've owned several NV400's. I love the Session, but it is an amp I probably won't take out of the house due to weight, but I like the SK just about as well with that speaker in it, even though it is not that much lighter. Just depends on what you want. If you can get the Session for $175, that is a killer deal. Mark Greenway had one for sale on the forum for $200, I think. A very clean amp, too. I think it just had a reverb problem.
