Spring cleaning

I've got my steel dismantled for a few days while a replacement part is being made.
What 'spring cleaning' would Forumites suggest to keep it in good, clean condition? (I'm not very mechanically minded, and get a nose bleed at the sight of a screwdriver, so this is along buffing, oiling and 'tweaking' lines.

I just did this myself. I got a lot of info from some threads on here. One thing I learned about from the forum and tried is Meguiar's Mirror Glaze. I have a lacquer guitar and it did an amazing job on it. I also learned that I should do the metal pieces last.

I'm sure some people with more experience than me will chime in with more good ideas.
