Spring cleaning

I've got my steel dismantled for a few days while a replacement part is being made.
What 'spring cleaning' would Forumites suggest to keep it in good, clean condition? (I'm not very mechanically minded, and get a nose bleed at the sight of a screwdriver, so this is along buffing, oiling and 'tweaking' lines.
