The entire CD is available here:

Curly's ability to vary his syncopated, right hand phrasing on any part of the beat is probably still unmatched. He was amazing.

Two giant players gone too soon. Curly died in 1998, Bobby in 2009.

That is from a late-night 'rehearsal-turned-jam session' at Scottys Music store in St Louis.
Curly and Bobby were a perfect fit for each other in an informal ad-lib situation such as this.
I've had a tape of this session since the night it took place in the early '70's and it never 'gets old'.
Listening to their 'romp' through 'Up The Lazy River' is like taking a ride on the Roller Coaster!
I'm so glad Scotty had the good sense to toss a couple mics over their amps and fire up the
reel-to-reel!

Sitting here with my eyes closed I can see Bobby smiling ,matching every lick Curly makes, getting that grimace on his face as he moves up & down the neck, raising his leg as he would do ,enjoying the hell out of it.I sure do miss my friend,he never knew a stranger & if you met him once, the next time you seen him he would remember you, smile, shake your hand & ask how you're doing, just a great guy & friend.

If ever two guys had command of a style that was it. No matter what steel player Bobby was working with, he became the perfect partner. He was the most complete guitar player I ever heard. Miss him.

Scotty was so kind to send me this on a reel to reeel tape in about '74 and it is a treasure. Thanks again, Scotty.
