I found this Interview with Buddy Emmons on The Pedal Steel Pickers page and in it Buddy explains his Copedent.
Quote: |
Q: What is your current E9th set-up?
BE: Pedal #1 raises strings 5 & 10, 1 tone. Pedal #2 raises 3 & 6, 1/2 tone. Pedal #3 raises 4 & 5, 1 tone. Pedal 4 raises 1, 1 tone. LKL raises 4 & 8, 1/2. LKV lowers 5 & 10 1/2. LKR lowers 4 & 8, 1/2. RKL lowers string 6, 1 tone and raises string 2, 1/2 tone. RKR lowers string 2, 1/2 tone and 1 tone along with string 9, 1/2 tone. Split tuning is on pedal 1 and LKV and pedal 2 and RKL. |
What do Buddy mean when he says "Split tuning is on pedal 1 and LKV and pedal 2 and RKL"?
I thought that split tuning was when you had two notes on the same pedal, like Buddy has on RKR.

Buddy raises strings 5 & 10 from B to C# on the A pedal while simultaneously lowering them with the vertical knee lever. With the split tuning rod the note is tuned to C natural.
On string 6 he raises the string 6 from G# to A with the B pedal while lowering it with rkl. The split tuner tunes the note to G natural.

The second string drop to D and then to C# is commonly referred to as a half stop or feel stop, not a split. Chuck explained the split tuner above. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Hmmm... Then it seems like I have the same split on my guitar. I thought that this is how it worked, never figured that it was a special setup...
Thanks for the explanation!
