Hello.
I have been thinking about selling my steel guitar record collection for awhile, but that may be a challenge! It is probably the worlds largest and most complete collection around. I know that there are a few collectors, but some buy only LP`s,others only CD`s,etc. I guess there are no clubs or steel guitar museums around that could possibly be interested in such a collection, and it will be difficult to send anywhere, exept Europe, where you could take your pickup or van and take a visit to Norway and pick it up. Also,I have spent too much money in this to give it away,an estimate of buying value-to me-are maybe around somewhere between $3-400 000. One will never get back that value, but I guess you understand that I can`t just give it away! For many years I sent additions to Joe Goldmark who put all these known records into the book "The International steel guitar discography" ,and there are 3 sections in this book-Steel,dobro and hawaiian. I have been consentrating on the steel guitar part in this book, and will say my collection is 99% complete. There are also many additions after the last book was printed,so the collection has added a lot since then.
I hate to see something like this to be split up and sold single copys, but on the other hand,I don`t see who can buy such a large collection, but what a treasure he would have got! There are everything from 78`s,and singles via cassettes-4 & 8 track to some reel to reel tapes,a lot of radiotranscriptions that are very interesting, because there you get "live" versions of songs, and even things they never recorded on records. There are all the steel guitar records, incl. alot of foreign steelers. And hundreds of "band" and artists records with 1-3 steel instros on.And of course CD`s. After 2000 I stopped buying all new CD`s,finding it difficult to keep track of all new things coming out,and many of them homemade CD`s as well where quality was not always the best.So I am not 100% updated on CD`s after 2000.But have been buying vinyl up to this date. I realize that after I moved,we need more space for other things, and there are a lot to be done around the house and garden,so to sell the collection will also hopefully bring in some cash! My wife don`t know what to do with the records in case something should happens to me.So it`s maybe best to do it myself while i`m alive! It has been a big interest for me since I started playing steel in 75,but time has come to put my interest more into my house and garden.
If anyone have ideas arouns this, feel free to come up with your inputs.I have to think about it for awhile, but will probably start selling single copys soon if nobody takes it all.
Hope to hear from you!
