looking for tips on cleaning nicotene stains from a steel guitar. all the chrome and fomica is fine. it's the kluson pearl (or white?) tuners and and the brushed steel on the back side and the pedal bar

You could try Meguiar's Swirl Remover 2.0. I've had excellent results removing crud from lacquer bodies using it. But if the buttons are a porous material, the stains may have sunk in really deep, and replacement may be your only option.

Brake cleaner might work well on the steel parts. Just be careful with it!

Bill , you might also try paint thinner(mineral spirits). NOT lacquer thinner. I use this as lubrication when I sand and polish my newly lacquered guitars. Try in an inconspicuous spot first.
Mineral spirits removes most dirt and crud. Like John suggested, use swirl remover to also touch up the shine.
