For the past seven months, I've been immersed in the Jerry Byrd "big book" and it is just amazing how much my playing has improved. The course has enabled me to do things I wasn't able to before, like playing with a bullet bar and becoming comfortable with slants. A technique he does not cover is blocking. Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to have a lesson from Doug Beaumier who, beside being a phenomenal player, is really nice guy. Doug was very encouraging and instructive. One of the things we worked on was pick blocking and, unfortunately, this doesn't come easily for me (although palm blocking is not much of an issue). I know this subject has been covered here before, but I haven't found any resources in the Forum archives or elsewhere which have helped me so far. Does anyone have any pick blocking exercises or favorite videos (dedicated to lap steel) which might help me figure this out?

Pick blocking for lap steel is much the same as pedal steel and there are a lot of threads.

GeorgeBoards has a DVD out on picking techniques.

Joe Wright has a DVD out on pick-blocking where he gives 36 exercises to work on.

David Hamburger has instruction on pick-hand damping for slide guitar. Essentially it's pick blocking.

John Tuggle has instruction on Derek Trucks style pick hand technique.

Doug Beaumier posted an excellent 3 minute YouTube video on pick blocking.
