While looking for some lead sheet software, I ran across this geeky but powerful program called Impro-Visor. Here's the link:

http://www.cs.hmc.edu/~keller/jazz/improvisor/

I was able to bang out this page in about two hours, which included the initial learning curve. There's still a lot about it that I don't understand, but it's pretty cool. It's definitely geared towards jazz students, so I wouldn't recommend it to non-readers.

b0b why are some of the notes colored? Thanks, stevet

Sorry, I just went to the site and found the answer:

Optional automatic note coloration shows whether notes are consonant or dissonant with chords and scales."

It was developed at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California (USA).

You can turn off the note coloration feature, I've discovered.
