i have decided to start the transfer of a notebook full of my handwritten transcriptions over to something more presentable and was wondering what kind of notation/tab software you all are using on some of these great transcriptions i see posted.
i used tabledit in the past - like 10+ years ago because i was doing a lot of banjo tablature (that was all there was for banjo) - it looks a bit outdated though compared to what i've seen lately.
i do need MAC software though - something with customized 8 STRING tunings which i assume they all do these days, but i see some only allow up to 7 string guitar. _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |

Jerome,
I will be the first to say NOT to use GuitarPro, it only goes up to 7 strings, and it's got some quirks to it that are annoying.
TablEdit, however, seems to have come a long way, and is available for Mac
They claim up to 12 strings of TAB too, so even "Peddlers" could use it
Anyway, looking forward to seeing what others are using too!

I will second TablEdit, but have to add that I've never used any other. You can do a lot with TE and the support group on Yahoo is very helpful. They upgrade the software seemingly every week. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

TablEdit is what I use too. Below is some 8-string tab I did last year using TE. The version I'm using is about three years old. With TE you can put the numbers on the lines OR in the spaces, any number of strings, up to 15, I believe, any tuning. It also does pedal steel tab and allows you assign whatever letter you want the the raises and lowers. It has audio so you can hear how it sounds. It's not easy to use though. Because there are a lot of options it takes a lot of tinkering to get the look you want.

thanks guys - it looks like sticking with tabledit is the way to go - i've just been out of the loop so long i figured i'd ask instead of spending countless hours (re)learning software that is outdated - been there, no thanks. i remember trying to use Finale once, years ago, oh brother... then there was a string of early tab software that has long bit the dust or no longer upgraded - that was my fear with tabledit, that these larger guitar based software programs had bested it with fancy features and it was a dinosaur. _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |
