Never heard of Smokey and therefore don't understand, Barry.

Smokey Hormel is a fine guitarist. He's worked with a ton of people, from Tom Waits and Beck to, most recently, Norah Jones. He had a western swing band that Bob Hoffnar played with for a few years, too.
It is a fine link, thanks for sharing.

From Steve Khan:
"I have often thought that it would be wonderful to do something together with Paul Franklin, the fantastic pedal-steel player from Nashville. I love his playing, and the fact that he seems to have an excellent feel for textures. That would be huge for me."

I used to take guitar lessons from Steve Khan around '89. Such a warm, wonderful guy, and a unique player.
If someone asked me what was the first record I bought with my own money, I'd have to tell truth and say I stole the money from my Dad's piggy bank. I believe my first purchases were 45s: Smoke On the Water, Rocky Mountain Way and Hocus Pocus. I got caught stealing, by the way, and I've led a clean life ever since....

Steve Kahn is the only player that I've heard of, from those mentioned. He's on a Felix Cavaliere (Young Rascals) album. A great Jazz- Rock player.

Isn't Steve Khan the son of Sammy Kahn, the classic American Songbook composer? Quite a legacy, if so.

You may not have heard of Smokey but you sure have heard him ! His studio credits are astonishing. He has been producer Rick Rubins go to guitar player for a while. He is an amazing musician and person. I'm lucky to have gotten to know and play music with him.

I've heard that he's a real ham. (Bah-dum-bump)
Steve Khan: First heard of him when Steely Dan's
Gaucho came out. Great stuff there.
Interesting survey overall. I recognized a few names, way less than half. Some like Erin McKeown and Jill Sobule I think of more as singer/songwriters, but they do play guitar. IINM Lyle Workman did a ton of awesome stuff on Jellyfish's excellent
Spilt Milk album. Jesse Harris I associate with Norah Jones.

Yes, he is Sammy Kahn's son. He changed the spelling of his last name.
Tim, Lyle Workman first came to my attention when he appeared on Mike Varney's first US Metal release on Shrapnel. I've followed him a bit through the years, up to his tenure with Todd Rundgren's band in the 90s.

Oh I get it now. You are just making fun of Smokey's name ! Silly me. I thought that you might have had some small shred of insight. My mistake.

Get a grip, Bob. It could have easily been mistaken for a stage name by those who don't know him, of which I am one. There was no malice intended.

Olli, yes I've heard of Bill Frisell (and Marc Goldenberg) but I didn't see him on the list yesterday. I've even seen him perform, but somehow I didn't think much of it on that evening, maybe I was in the wrong mood
But I will be checking out the record you recommended.

There are two guitar players on this number: Buzzy Feiten and Steve Khan.
