I really like the 8 string E9th tuning that Mike Neer has been recommending and I put together a PDF file of fretboard charts showing the different intervals for different scales: E mixo, B dorian, A ionian, F# aeolian, G# locrian and the altered diminished scale based on a half step followed by a whole step rather than the other way around. Actually I've just been using the first two scales but added the others for deeper study. I also included fretboard charts showing the intervals of the E7 and Bm7 chords.

I've been generating charts like this for all of the different tunings I've been using and I find them to be very helpful. Here are links to the PDF file with the 8 charts for the 8 string E9th tuning:

On the web site you can enter the notes of an open tuning with virtually any number of strings and it will generate charts that you can print out on the website.

I've been using Nitro PDF to redirect the printer output to a PDF file on your local hard drive as a permanent copy. If someone is unable to do that send me a PM with the tuning and scales or chords that you'd like.

While transcriptions and tutorials are great, I've gotten much benefit from these charts that show the scales and chords. While these charts show you where the notes are, it is transcriptions and tutorials that help you figure out what to do with those notes. So all of that fits together.
