We will be playing alternating sets and may begin a tad early, say around 9pm...

RON ROGERS & The Wailing Wind: You Tube: http://youtu.be/Ta_9WCC3TD8
Texas-bred singer-songwriter-guitarist Ron Rogers knows how to tell a story. The 11 Rogers-penned songs on Country & Eastern, the new release featuring his band, the Wailing Wind, are testaments to the hard life, injustice, the dark side, and tough living, set to a raw and edgy roots/Americana soundtrack.

Rogers is known for his inspired lyricism and the ability to capture strong moods and emotions in the studio. “With this band,” says Roger, “I can easily capture the stuff that’s in my head. Most of these cuts were done in one take, once we nailed the groove. ”

Rogers’ band is comprised of some of Portland’s finest – Dave Grafe on pedal steel guitar, Don Campbell on bass and vocals, and drummer Chris Bond. Each is a musical journeyman in his own right who fits seamlessly with Rogers’ music.

The CD, Rogers’ fifth, runs the gamut from Texas-style rock (Alabama Chrome, Cathouse on the Moon), aching ballads (Hang Tough, Underneath the Wheels, I’ll Tell You Why), and even the tongue-in-cheek and light-hearted (We Both Love Her & We Both Hate Me). All feature Rogers’ astute storytelling, strong vocals and guitar, and the moan of Grafe’s pedal steel guitar. The band is anchored by the rock-solid backbeat of Bond and Campbell.

RICH LAYTON & The Troublemakers: YouTube: http://youtu.be/1I53FkD4Rcg
Five prisoners of Rock ‘n Roll, the members of this band served their musical hard time in low-down Texas blues bars, Memphis juke joints, Detroit rock clubs and legendary hangouts up and down LA’s Sunset Strip. When their sentences were up, each musician made his way to Portland, looking for a fresh start with careers, families and mortgages. But the boogie was in these boys, and it had to come out. The backbeat beckoned, and the backsliding began. They went looking for trouble and found it, forming The Troublemakers in 2004. Along with bands like The Blasters, NRBQ and Los Lobos, The Troublemakers are keepers of the flame for American roots music. It’s Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Gene Vincent, Johnny Cash and all their musical descendants; the proud tradition of three chords and a bad attitude. When they take the stage, The Troublemakers have one mission - to keep the dance floor packed, to keep the beer flowing and to play every note as if their lives depended on it which, in a way, it does…because this band knows there’s No Parole from Rock ‘n Roll.

Hi Pete, we will alternate sets and I will sit in with Rich & Co. for several tunes throughout the night, with us most likely getting together with members of both bands at some point before the night is over. Hope to see you there!
