Just Curious About leg lenght

I see post people wanting legs and such for steels. When I first began playing, I was told these were just mike stand refitted for a different purpose, True? Secondly, Is the threaded end just an insert. If a persons guitar legs were too long can't you remove the insert and shorten the legs.altenatively the legs telescop. So you could remove the center piece and cut the outter tube. Lastly my legs extend a long way. Just how tall are you that the legs wont extend enough? Like I say just curious. Never played with the legs very much never played, well steel legs anyway. I have a difficult enough time sliding the bar correctly
