The guitar player in my band has a Magnatone Varsity 6 string lap steel. I didn’t even realize he had this! He sent me some pics yesterday asking me if I knew how to identify it’s age and if I knew anything about it’s value. I’m primarily a pedal steeler, I don’t know this stuff. I told him I’d put it up here and let you all take a crack at it. Here are two pictures. What do you know?

My Varsity's a cousin of this one, my tuner pegs and knobs are clear acrylic, and I think I have circles instead of stars. No idea what the "value" is, probably whatever the last person bids! I'd say that one's at least $250-300? |

That's identical to the first lap steel I ever owned, except mine had blue instead of red plastic. I paid $75.00 for the lap steel and matching amp.
I'd guess Craig is pretty accurate as to current price. These can be very nice sounding guitars - they're extremely light. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Any thoughts on the age of this one? |
