A musical benefit/tribute was held yesterday afternoon, Sunday, February 27th. at the American Legion Building in Blue Springs, Missouri for steel guitarist, Glen "Doug" Mastin to assist his family with his funeral expenses and a headstone for his burial site.

The Legion auditorium was graced with many of Kansas City's top reigning country musicians from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s including numerous members of Kansas City's super group of the 1960s and 70s, Clayton Howerton's, "Western All Stars," of which Doug was once a member. The sounds that filled the auditorium yesterday were not the repetitious rockin' roll licks of so many of today's KC bar bands, instead the progressive country music that once eminated from the stage of every major night club during country music's hayday in Kansas City.

One of the days most emotional moments was when time was taken out to play five songs Doug managed to record before his passing. It was intended to be a ten song project, but God had other plans; however, the five, songs that Doug did lay down were a precious gift that help all of us remember just what an outstanding talent he really was and how much he will be missed. There are many who knew Doug better, knew him longer and spent more time with him than myself, but I will say these final words about him. When Doug laughed or smiled it came from deep down inside him and when he played steel guitar it came from the same place.
