I didn't see it, but I know Jerry Brightman played a lot of those shows with Buck. Maybe it was him?

Buck ususally just calls him Jay but recently said "Jay Franklin" on steel guitar. Tall kid with a big smile, loves to smile at the camera, D-10 Sho-bud.
Hank Jr's player looked lie a hardened older guy with a chrome plated steel!

Pretty sure the chrome plated steel was a Blanton.

Had pearl handled tuning keys and amazing tone for early 70's. The player had black hair, serious and hard looking.

Yes, Fred. It looked like Dickey Overbey was playing the steel for Hank Williams JR. I only saw the last ten minutes of the show.

That is Jerry Brightman. Should see a red, white and blue Emmons before long. I read on Jerry's sight once that it Ron Lashley was getting tons of calls when people saw the RWB push/pull wanting one. Jerry actually used RWB tape to blend in with the Buckaroos.

Sure is. Why the heck does Buck call him "Jay"?

Could it be a nickname based on the first letter of his name? I have seen that many times.

When Jerry first started with Buck he had a blue Sho-Bud. I am betting it is Jerry. Tom had a ZB and Jay Dee had an Emmons. Jay MacDonald to the best of my knowledge never played on Hee-Haw with Buck since he had left long before the show ever started.

It's definitely Jerry. Look at the photo link. He's in the front, smiling as usual

The steeler with Barbara Mandrell was Paul Franklin.
What a hot solo in "I'm satisfied." Check out his right hand even back then.
The guitar player was Gerald Reed, and notice the broken right arm.
I've been waiting for this episode to air.

Hey Theresa,
Yea, both songs were really hot.
Paul showed me the solo to the second one, in '74.
I still can't play it right
