I am thinking of getting a rackmount pod xt or x3 or similar. I was wondering if there are steel patches for it that might be available.

I have been using a Lexicon MPX1 with the steel presets. Problem is it is hard to program and usually I don't have the time.

I still have my reliable PV Tubefex with the Newman steel presets. I really like the way i could switch from a Hughey sound to a Mooney sound, or an Emmons sound and so on. It would be great if the line 6 pod's could have these kind of presets..

Any info on this would be helpful

Jack Stoner has several steel presets on his web site. You have to download a tool from Line 6 called GEARBOX (which they give you for free) in order to install them.

Tommy Dodd also has quite a few. You might want to talk to him.

The POD's are a different "animal" than a Peavey "Fex" unit. The POD's have modeling for various amplifiers, modeling for speakers and modeling for various stompbox devices such as reverbs, delays, distortion, chorus, etc.

The programs in the POD's are called "Tones" (why I don't know).

I use a POD XT (and a POD X3) but I only use them for effects only, such as my main "tone" which is digital delay and spring reverb. I don't use them for the amplifiers and speakers, except I do have one "tone" with an amp that I use when recording and I record direct to the board from the POD.

Hi Jack.

I use the Plexi 100 amp model with a four 10" cabinet simulator, along with reverb, a tiny bit of compression and stereo chorusing between my 2 amps. (ZT Clubs.) I also use a Brad Sarno Black Box which really warms up the sound.

The music I'm playing these days doesn't need distortion, but I have it programmed in so that if I need it, I hit the Stomp button.

I mount the POD on one of Tommy Dodd's racks that clip top the leg of the steel. Tommy's rack makes it very easy and convenient to make and adjustments I might want or need.

Mike, I use one of Tommy's leg mount devices too.

I just never got into the modeling on the unit. I just use it like a "stomp box" for effects when I play a show.

Jack (and everybody else) I suggest you try out the Plexi 100 and the Bassman Tweed models with the four 10" cabinet simulator.

You might like one of them.

In my opinion, both are very good steel sounds. I prefer the Plexi.

I programmed both into Blackie Taylor's POD. He prefers the Bassman Tweed so I set that as the default. He says that it the first sound he got out of the POD that he really likes.

Mike, I'm not changing a thing. I'm happy with my sound and I get a lot of comments on how good I sound. No need to mess with success.

I have a Franklin D-10 and what sounds good to you with your guitars may not sound good to me or work with my guitar. Keep in mind I play traditional country.

Jack, I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that you prefer to go with your own experience and ideas instead of slavishly adhering to mine.

I may never get over the trauma. Laughing Evil Twisted Mr. Green
